Has anybody else noticed that the VIN numbers not only differ with the last 6 numbers? I've only seen the first 6 characters to be the same. Ex:

JN1AZ43DX3T100766 - Touring AT
JN1AZ34D93T100516 - Touring AT
JN1AZ34E33T000856 - Touring 6MT
JN1AZ34D63T100439 - Track

This seems to indicate that there may be several units with the same last 3, 4, or 5 numbers.

Ideas?

I was just exercising my mind to pass the time. There really is no point to my observation.

The first number of the last six (either 1 or 0) seems to indicate some kind of factory control number. Rx0 at one point speculated at one time that the 1 or 0 may indicate either pre-production or production but this doesn't appear to be the case.

The last five numbers surely indicate build order for a total of 99,999. Do they just add another digit to the VIN afterwards?

I know the responses would all be speculation, unless Nissan tells us how they build VINs.

To everyone else out there, don't shoot me; I'm just trying to keep my sanity while waiting for the Z.
