Default For anyone with the 04 Coupe

When you get a chance, can you look around for the on/off passenger air bag switch ? Maybe in the glove box

Its suppose to be standard on the 04's on/off passenger air bag switch

Just my 0.02..
Just a guess, but it is possible the door opens that way to reduce glare on the screen.

I think that might be purpose. But the screen already sits inside in the first place and on the 03 when you open the nav compartment the glare is pretty minimun to none already.

I'm glad I got the 03 2 weeks ago. I was hoping the new NAV door would retract straight back in.

I don't like the new face door, it's very ugly. I have already ordered my 04 couple. I'm a little disappointed.

what are you talking about? the celica interior looks just fine. even good IMO. the z's interior looks cheap anyway to me. its only saving feature is the digital guage. im sorry, but bland, minimalistic designs plastered with alluminum dont impress me. i'll take a stylish plastic design over a boring metal one.

Dissident,

When was your 2004 built?

The car I saw was manufactured July 2003.

Mine was also from July. I still think the airbag switch is optional, according to the manual, and the fact I cannot find it.

I like the simple, or "plain" interior. My roommate has the GTS, and it's nice, but I definately prefer the Z.

So why did they change the door? Have there been problems? As for an ugly interior, I used to think the interior looked cheap. After owning for a few months, it really grew on me. Love it now. Very happy.

The celicas interior is pretty nice and fits around the person nicely.....nothing cheap about it...ofcourse compared to cars on its class or a lil higher........not to a 50k car

there is no way that Nissan made the 04 dash look like that, mismatch colors etc... Also I heard that the door handles on the 2004's were now METAL not painted plastic. Not noticable to the eye they say!

Just got home from looking at a 2004 first hand. Didnt see the difference in the NAV door? Anyways, one thing I did notice was the failure to match the radio color to the dash color. If you look closely in the pic posted on page 1 you will see that the interior is gray and the radio is a darker gray almost black. Doesn't stick out too much, and not too big of a deal. I just dont think they had that on the 2003. Maybe they improved it? Who knows.
All I know is that I ordered my 2004 SuperBlack Enthusiast today

The new Nav door is only for non NAV cars. Otherwise...it blocks TOO mouch of the scrren. Makes sense...I NEVER take my door down, b/c the screen is always on!. If it were a caddy area, the new door is an improvement...as its easier to open/close and looks best closed.

Otherwise...the console is indeed a black color - slightly rubbery to the touch.

Wonder their reasoning in doing this... (the black stuff that is) maybe it is harder to scratch and whatnot. Doesn't look bad IMO. Flows with the rest of the interior.

my theory is that Nissan changed the design of the navi door so it is easier to open and less likely to break. I had a friend who tried to open the navi door on my 03 Track, and he almost broke it because people who have never used the navi door tend to want to lift the door up, rather then properly slide it back.

I have had people try to slame my nav door shut, too. I just slap their hand and do it for them. DON'T F*CK MY CAR UP!

I got thr brochure for the '04 model the other day. In addition to a nice, clear photo of what the Liquid Aluminum looks like, it also mentions that most of the 03 to 04 changes are late availability. This means we will not see kneepads or sun visor extenders for another month or so probably...the Liquid aluminum is late availability as well, so it might be a few more weeks.

I checked this on a 2004 coupe & roadster -- still hard plastic handles. Open it and flick the inside with your finger...you'll notice they are the same.

Also, the head unit is black -- not matched to the gray look of it's surrounding.
