Question Breaking in ur Z!!!

can anyone please advise me on all the rules you should follow when breaking in a new Z!!! don't think i'm slow now, its that i'm 21 and all the cars I ever bought before were used. I know you should accelerate slowly, but is there a limit like u shouldn't go over 50mph and so on.

Using search will uncover everything you want to know about this. Also, search will help you find the link to the Nissan website that has a pdf version of the owners manual which gives exact details regarding the dos and donts of breakin.

Short answer is not hard acceleration or breaking for first 500 miles. Keep rpms under 4K and don't drive at constant RPM for extended periods of time.

Between 500 miles and 1200 mile s take is easy but as you approach 1200, start seeing redline to be sure rings are seated.

After that, what ever you are comfortable with.

Here is the pdf. (Must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. Available here)

Alang-

You should re-read the instructions:

From the owner's manual:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BREAK-IN SCHEDULE

During the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km), follow these recommendations to obtain maximum engine performance and ensure the future reliability and economy of your new vehicle. Failure to follow these recommendations may result in shortened engine life and reduced engine performance.

1) Avoid driving for long periods at constant speed, either fast or slow. Do not run the engine over 4,000 rpm.
2) Do not accelerate at full throttle in any gear.
3) Avoid quick starts.
4) Avoid hard braking as much as possible.
5 Do not tow a trailer for the first 500 miles (800 km).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notice it says nothing about seeing redline as you near 1,200 miles. But it does say do not run the engine over 4,000 rpm. I take this to mean that until your odometer has clicked off the 1,200th mile, do not run the engine above 4,000 rpm. Maybe I am misinterpreting.
