Default Why is the glove box behind the seat?

Well, the real question I guess, is what prevented a glove box from being put below the passenger side dash like most cars have? What resides in that area? I know the airbag is up top, but what is directly below that?

I think that it was a last minute decision....

"Hey guys, we forgot to factor in a glove compartment"

"Uh, oh yeah... hmm, there is enough room for one behind this seat."

Just kidding, I really don't know why.

Post what i read

i read somewhere, i believe in a book i bought, that since they pushed the engine back towards the passenger compartment, they didnt have room for the glove box in the traditional location.

i guess they still had room for a glove box in the g35 because it is a longer car?

anyways, that is what i read.

Also in addition to the motor being moved back, they needed room for the airbag system. So heck with the glovebox--let's just put a cupholder instead?!

I'd wish I could replace the cup holder with a cell phone cradle (patent pending! Nobody steal my idea!) =) Anyone wanna help me build 'em and sell them?

share more parts with the RHD version. engine took room, airbag.

and between all that, if it was up front itd be the biggest joke of a glove box ever, the one we got is 10x bigger than any glove box in cars these days.

as I remember it the G35 sedan actually has 2 pretty useless compartments there...

It is because of the FM(front midship) design.

I like the finish of the dash w/o the glove box actually. I guess if I used the cup holder I might appreciate it more. It just would have been nice to have a small compartment in the dash for quick, easy access items. Anyway...I love this car!

Dissident- you need one of these to hang from the vent above the cup holder. You can quickly remove it if you want to use the holder!!!
