Default Which Insurance ?

My friend just bought his 03' 350z Enthusiast 6spd + Navigation. He is shopping for car insurance. He purchased the car for $15,000 70K (private seller) so no mo/ payments. He was debating whether to get ( liability or full-coverage ). Average price is $250 vs $1100 for 6 months. He is targeting the liability coverage. What do you think?

helpful positive comments please.... ( I'm also trying to help him )

Can he afford the car being totaled? Is he a young driver? How many accidents has he been in? I dunno. I would get full coverage if I were him. 15000 is a lot of money to potentially throw down the tubes. A couple of users have already had their car totaled by the ins company for what looks like not very much damage.

I have allstate and I love them. But to each their own. I dont see this thread ending well.

I go with liability. All STATE it 50-60 / Month. I cant afford paying 250 every month.
My car is 06 Track , drive carefully all the time.

So it up to you, as long as you don't hit anyone you are good.
If someone hit you their insurance pay for it.

If it is his only car, then he should definitely get full coverage. That's all that needs to be said.

I'm around the same age, clean record, and full coverage through geico is $400 every 6 months.

Your friend is getting screwed with those prices. Are you sure his record is clean?

If he's not to young and has a good record, try wawanesa. I pay 1500 for full coverage for the whole year with one point on my record. Wawanesa is only valid for California

If he has a perfect record then I would go with full coverage with Wawanesa Car Insurance. They are the best and cheapest. The only thing is that they will drop you like a brick if you have any accident (fault or not at fault). They will reject you also if you have any accidents.

I'm 23 with Allstate, and I pay $1,080 every six months; however, that's insuring my 350z and Pathfinder. If I took my Pathfinder off, it would be ~$600 every six months. If you drive a KIA, go with just the liability. Else, go with full coverage. Like Jgrizzle said, most insurance companies will state your 350z as totaled for what looks to be very little damage. Even though your friend paid $15k for the car, it doesn't mean it's cheap to fix.

Also, $15,000 for a 2003 w/ 70k mi is rather high. Did you haggle at all?

OP
There are a million threads on Insurance here on the boards and here is the simple answer.

None of us know how much money your friend has so we can not tell you if full coverage is a good idea or not. Would I say get full coverage? Yes the car is not old enough IMO to go without it. If the car was worth less than 7k , then I would go with just liability.

Insurance rates are like a fingerprint, everyones will be different, there are just too many factors involved so " I pay 600 every 6 months through allstate " is worth nothing, because of things like where you live , coverage, credit, car, records , single/married, kids, muti car, home owner,ect.. the list goes on.

Your friend should get full coverage, at his age and the car he just bought there is a high chance he will have a claim, He knows it and so does the insurance company, thats why its so expensive.

If he has coverage ?'s let me know ( 8 year insurance agency owner)

I agree with you with the strictness. But surprisingly they still insured me with one fender bender on my record.
