Default Anyone notice...

Is this main board is becoming a bit useless? The ONLY threads that survive here (not moved) are: dicussion about 17 year olds; a 12 page post when a 18 year old makes a senseless post; how fast have you gone poll; and a comment about shirt designs.

May I make a plea that the admins rethink the agressive moving of posts (as I'm sure this one will be moved - but I can't find the 'suggestion' part of this site - and once moved, I am also sure no one will read it). I ask that you please leave it on the main board so some discussion can take place.

Are the admins contemplating a re-org? It would seem to me that the 'general board' is the proper home for many of the sub-forum posts....such as most of the 'tech area'. In fact, most of the stuff that DOES survive on the 'general forum' belongs in the Lounge (IMHO).

This is only my opinion based upon expierience with several other boards. This forum has proven to be very valuable to many of us - just trying to make it a bit less frustrating.

Thoughts? What does everyone else think?

Fine discussion for the main Board, imo.

Fire away.

Where would you guys draw the line on moving posts?

+1 I also think same as you OP.
I rarely come on this section anymore and whenever I come on here just to check out whats going on,, its always something about 18 year olds buying their car and member's flaming people. This section seems more like a "Lets bust our youngin's and show noobs that this forum has a SEARCH button"

Just my opinion. No offense to mods or anyone who take this section seriously.

cheers

I'm guessing OP hasn't found the forum index to see what other forums are actually out there:

https://my350z.com/forum/

This is not the "main board" - this is the General 350Z forum. There are a bunch of subject specific forums (Intake/Exhaust; Audio/Video/Electronics; DIY; etc.). Anything that doesn't really fall into a subject specific forum stays here if it's generally related to the 350Z. Otherwise, it belongs in the Lounge/Off-Topic forum.

One of the biggest complaints people make here is that Search doesn't work. Most of the time, I can easily go search out what they claim to not be able to find. Why? I go to the subject specific forum and use the "Search this forum" link.

If you want to browse a specific subject (car stereo), then the posts of the Audio/Video forum are the place to start. Can you imagine how many thousands of posts you'd have to scan over to find them buried in the general 350Z forum?

+1 on op's post, I mean I like to think this is just the internet, but some of the "personalities" on here are mostly devoid of humor, more like a bunch of bullies @ recess. Arnold350z was my hero though.. heh, he summed it up in his posts. It Comes down to a few ruining it for the rest, including some of the moderation.

From when I joined this site to date I have never had so many people on my ignore list, and so many blocked posts in threads. Sucks, but I was lucky enough to join a great group on a local forum

Most of the things that people want to know can be found under the subsections, and without any new 350z models in production it is only natural that this section will see less and less activity.

Yeah but it gives us guys with way to much free time something to do

so as soon as the "Just got a Z @ 17" threads which normally get linked to the "Just totaled the Z" stop showing up we will all be noon worshiping saints.

I kind of agree with OP. On the other hand, I don't know where to draw the line. Being a new mod, I've moved a ton of posts from here. But virtually all easily fit in another category. If we didn't move threads, this forum would be a mish mash of unrelated threads that would be difficult to wade through.

If I see a regular here looking for an answer needing info with some urgency to it, I tend to leave it up for awhile to get a faster answer.

On the other hand, if it is noobie asking about favorite color to buy, it gets moved swiftly.

I'm happy to listen if anyone has comlaints/suggestions. Post here or send me (or any mod or admin) a PM. No guarantees on changes but I will read them and respond.

I also agree with threat45's comments on "bullies @ recess". There is a group on here that does get carried away. I've been attempting to quiet them down without creating a war. Threat45, Id be curious to know who you think the bullies are (by pm). It will go no further. Again, no promises on action.

Wrong forum. This is a feedback thread.

The forum constantly fights a generalisation vs specialisation battle. General subjects have a widespread interest. Specialised subjects (exhaust) have a specialised interest. If you want to find information about a specialised subject (tires), then you go to a sub forum.

The trend is more and more sub forums. Soon I expect to see a "left front headlight" forum and a "right front headlight" forum. So the advantage of a sub forum is what? Reference for technical information? Great if it worked but it doesn't. Members will still post “What is the best exhaust?” here.

BTW any post longer than 3 lines will be ignored. You get about 30 seconds to make your point.

Why you using S's where Z's belong? Are you a Brittanica Encyclopedia?

You have my sympathy.

Day after day moving tire threads to the tire forum. I figure someone so lazy as not to figure out that there is a tire forum is not going to read replies anyway.

Ah, but the real question. davidv, is are you going to revive this thread six months from now... long after it has been administered last rites?

Not sure where the hell my spell checker comes from. Keeps giving me words like "theatre" and "colour!"

Default For Example

The thread discussing the 'clunk' in the passenger rear area when hitting a bump. For some reason I can't find it now...but anyway - that recieved quite a bit of conversation - then a member posted a fix! Holy Cow! That was great for me! And several other memebers! Then - for some reason - it was moved to 'repair and maint'. Well - OK - I guess so. But the one who posted a fix wasn't surfing that sub-forum. Neither was I. Neither were any who posted on that topic. After it got moved...it died. I've witnessed this on many other posts as well.

Yes- I agree - please move 'I've crashed my Z' - or some 17 year old's rant - to the Lounge. It's just my opinion that we need fewer sub-forums (350z w/subs of Nismo, Roadster, FI, Exhaust, Intake, Audio, Media, maybe a couple of others). I've lived on several other BMW boards, and a few Mazda - they seem to be organized (or enforced?) a bit differently.

I don't mean to offend anyone - just hoping/suggesting.

Thanks.

Good example, John. Thanks. By the way, alas, I think I'm the one who moved the clunk thread!

Any other examples, guys?

John has given two clues for the mods; (1) if it looks like a new topic of interest, leave it here and see if (2) it picks up responses.

I'm not sure I see the problem there. It was moved after someone posted a fix for it? I say leave it be for a couple of days and if a fix is posted and the problem resolved then archive it by moving it to the appropriate subforum. Then cross your fingers that a forum noob will search for it in said sunforum.
