Default Got a Z... wondering if I should sell my other car...

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this in, but anyways I got a 2003 350z with around 40k miles on it recently. I'm pretty sure it's never seen snow. I'm using it as my daily driver now. I'm wondering if I should just get snow tires for it and drive it during the [Indiana] winter, or if I should just keep my 1994 V6 Camaro to drive in the winter. I love the 350z too much and I'm sure I'm going to hate to go back to that Camaro when the winter comes.

Yeah, it's only worth maybe $1500 right now. It does have pretty new tires and everything though, which is why I kind of want to keep it. I don't want to spend more than $2k on a winter beater, and at least with the Camaro I already know what matienance has been done. I don't want to buy a beater and have to throw a bunch of money into it.

IMHO keep the Chevy. You are in a similar situation as myself--I bought the 350z and drive it when its nice out (not raining, snowing, windy, etc..) as a daily driver and I kept my 95 318Ti as the beater. My BMW while not ideal as a winter driver is worth so little (240K miles on it) that it's just not worth selling and getting another vehicle that I have no history with. FYI I did mount up snows on it and just run it year round with them as I don't drive many miles on it. Just my two cents.

I wouldn't sell it. Especially for the $1,500 unless you really need the cash. If it were me and I were ready to get rid of a car I took car of I would first look to see if I had any family members or friends who needed an inexpesive car, and they will know that it was taken good care of.

My guess is when I am ready to move on from the Z if I ever do so, I will probably give it to my brother.

I would rather see him have a great car than getting raped on a trade in, or forced to sell it for lower than what I think its worth

I would not sell it especially if its paid off. Hell I want an emergency car since I foresee working with lower income areas and don't want to drive the Z there. Keep the camero, drive it in the winter, park it when its warm outside.

Believe it or not, if you have TCS and winter tires the car is not totally terrible in the now. You can get around, just don't expect it to be awesome like an AWD car is. They suck, but you can manage with it really. There are lots of people with BMW's who drive them all year round and have no problems. How many normal people who are not car enthusiasts own BMW's that are RWD and have winters put on them and drive them all year round? Lots.

Rear wheel drive 350Z or rear wheel drive Camaro in snow and ice? Neither seems suitable.

I've never owned a car that wasn't RWD so I'm pretty used to it by now. I'm just kind of worried about ruining my paint job or something on the Z due to road salt or whatever.

Its a car not a baby. Keep a good coat of wax on the car and it will be fine.

You can't think like that or you will drive yourself completly insane and worry everytime you take the Z out of the garage. Buy the car to enjoy it, fact of the matter is it is going to get some paint chips or tiny scratches no matter what you do.

In reality the only one that will notice them is you anyways. Buy the car enjoy it as much as you can. If it gets salt on it, so be it. If its 3 years down the road and you really can't stand it, just repaint it.

Its a car its ment to be driven.

Get an old 4x4 beater for bad weather. Then you got all your bases covered.
