Default How to tint past the illegal limit legally?

hey guys.. i just got my Z and i really want to tint the windows but the only way im gonna do it is past the 35% (?) limit for california in order for it to look good. but then im scared of getting pulled over and end up ripping it off like my s2k friend had to do. i heard a rumor about getting a doctor's note or something like that so you can tint ur windows legally. can anyone clarify this?? and any doctors in the forum that would do this for me if this is true? thanks guys!

i heard something like that too. Im in chicago and we cant have tints at all, but a friend of mine from college went to her doctor and for 50 bucks he gave her a note that stated she was very sensitive to sunlight. Now she has 2% limo tints all around. She got pulled over a few times at first, but eventually they put a note in under her name on the computer not to pull her over for tints. Another thing I heard is that some cops really dont care and will give you a ticket anyway. later

Are you sure the limit in CA is 35%? I see a sh!tload of cars with darker tints up here all the time.

According to this site this site we can go limo tint on the back.

Well I have illegal tint on my car, I have 20% all around and the legal limit is 35%. I've never been pulled over for it, and I've heard they have to have a device that will tell them how much light goes thru the windows to write up a ticket that is accurate. I've also heard these devices are pretty expensive and most departments don't have them yet. I would expect alot of departments in California to have them though

At night 35% and 20% don't really look that much different, I really had no trouble getting someone to tint my car with illegal tint. I don't know if it's as easy in California though. My only suggestion is if you get pulled over roll down both windows before the cop even gets to your car. Not exactly the advice you wanted I'm sure, but it's the best I can give.

are you sure the limit is 35%? i remember it being something like 80% on the fronts and anything on for back windows. maybe just keep the windows rolled down as much as possible.

CA only allows 70% on the front sides as that website above also says. I read that our windows are already 93% so even 70% tint on the sides would put it over.
I'm thinking 20-35% on the back, 5% on the small sides, and 35-50% on the front sides. Haven't decided yet. Just want to have some contrast from back to front so it looks like I at least conpromised

$300 bucks! Thats just crazy. In MD the highest ive seen is $140.
Im also trying to get 20% tint. Havent done it yet still shopping for a good place. (cant find one yet). maybe all the good ones charge $300
Anyone know if your supposed to take your door panel off for a good tint job? Cuz i asked this place down here called "the tint shop" and they said they wouldnt. But ive heard good shops will do that in order to do it right.

Woody,

ask a retailer to do it for you, they willl just deny you the "legal papers" and if you get caught... not good...

I'm a doctor, and yes, I've written notes for people in CA for window tint. It's a pretty simple thing to do.

I'd be happy to write you one. So what's the medical reason why you need window tint darker than the legal limit?
