Default Glass that turn black and to see through at a switch

Last time I saw a report starting that it is a type of glass which u can adjust the lights permit to comes in at a switch. However, it is for home and offices.

I wonder anyone know has it migrate to car yet?

and how much.

mercedes showed such a variable-tint electrochromic glass on their GST sport utility vehicle.

i think the primary reason why you don't see it in cars is the expense to have such a system.

there is glass/plastics that change tint depending upon exposure to ultraviolet light using silver halide. i believe it is expensive for anything larger than eye glasses...i also think that any kind of curvature affects the level of tint thus it would be difficult to have an even color on something as large as a car window.

The cost to tint all the window with that on the Z would cost as much if not more than the Z itself. From what I've seen, the darkest tint for sale is about a 20%. I think 3M makes it and theres another company that does homes and offices.

If you were asking about the tint that is liquid crystal based, don't bother. This is the tint that with a flip of the switch can be turned on full strength. Normally, you would see the window as clear or completely fogged, although it can be tinted black to a certain percentage. First, it is really expensive. Second, it must be built between two glass sheets. Finally, when off it consumes electricity and is not totally clear. It looks a little foggy due to the liquid crystal between the glass. It certainly would not be good for driving.

On the other hand, the chemical treatment that reacts to sunlight might be pretty cool.
