Post 4.0L (VQ40DE) Comming Out

Nissan stated that a new version of the 3.5 VQ (if not "new", bored and stroked) will find its way into the new Pathfinder. The pathfinder wil takes its visual cues from the Nissan DuneHawk concept shown this month at Frankfurt.

A stroker kit will require offset grinding the crankshaft and something I read read tells me that the rod journals on the VQ won't handle that. Maybe we can hope for a forged aftermaket crank. Now we are talking $$$

Yeah, I wonder if it is possible to use the crank and rods off the VQ40

Probably not in an offset grind, the rods will be longer plus, Brad4rdHay seems to indicate a larger bore. The shortblock may be a direct replacement. . . Good luck finding one though. Best bet for the price = FI

not likely, to get extra 500 cc, they probably need to increase the bore.

I didn't mean to get 4.0L, I meant just to increase displacement like as if it was a stroker kit.

depending on what the new stroke is it could make our VQ come out to 3.6? 3.7? 3.8?

Guys/Gals, come on... I've been mentioning this forever.

If you want power out of this one, you're going to have to think about it. If you want a truck powered Nissan by an older 240sx!

You want a motor with top end power AND torque... I would anticipate utilizing the VQ40 block and our current head. What we have now flows extremely well with the crawford plenum. Combining this with a larger displacement block would give us only increased low down torque.

Could be a fun combo!

so would this still be a 6cyl (i assume so since it's the same engine family)? I've never heard of a 6cyl with that much displacement.

Yeah, the 400Z!

I hope Nissan waits a couple more years, I need to pay down my 350 a little more before I trade

Technically if the 4.0 uses the same block as the 3.5, it will be lighter if it goes unreinforced because more material will have to be removed (boring the engine). This would shift weight back to closer to 50-50.
