^ Haha I don't pay much attention to the tach while driving, unless I'm hitting cutoff. It's all about the feeling when you drive. You can shift regardless of what RPM you're in, but if you shift too slow at certain speeds the car will "jerk" to match the revs.

if it pulls forward, you're letting clutch out too fast (faster than RPM drop), if it pulls back, then too slow.

Just watch your tach and remember where the rpm is once you're in second, then the next time you shift from first to second, watch your tach and try to let out the clutch when it reaches that mark. bro, i tried ur way of shift...it works ..lol.....now shifting to second is pretty smooth....sometimes it does the jerky motion a little ..but not as bad as it was before....lol..thanks

I felt like it was pretty jerky from 1-2 when I got it, but I've got it pretty smooth now. Seems like the keys are keeping the revs up and feathering the clutch a little more than usual on that one shift.

It used to bother me, but, I watch a lot of racing on TV and I can see and hear the cars jerk a little when they shift. So I just pretend that I'm driving out of the pit area.

I almost think it has something to do with the longish clutch engagement, at least for me.

second to third, third to forth, forth to fifth and etc are all pretty smooth..no jerky motion wutsoever....

can anyone tell me what did i do wrong? what's the proper way of shifting from first to second???

anyone get the same kinda jerky motion that i get?

please help!!!!!!

Well I get that jerky motion in the cold start at morning until the car warms up then it becomes smooth no jerky motion at all, I think its just that when its cold CLUTCH grabs harder so it tends to be jerky but you can still manage to shift smooth by letting out ur clutch little slower.

It is finicky. But as people have said, revving a little higher (thus the vehicle is moving a little faster) does seem to help. Assuming you are ok losing a bit of gas mileage.

Until you're more adept, you might try starting in 2nd gear.........

I had this same problem when I first started driving my 2006 MT Z. It is also my first manual car. When I first started shifting from 1st to 2nd was like hell. Now I have gotten it down to its either perfect or the car jerks just enough to feel the shift. Keep practicing. You'll get it down it takes a long time to perfect this car. One suggestion is that I feel this car almost "needs" more gas than other cars. I usually shift and when the clutch is in add the tiniest bit of gas and release the clutch slowly and that has gotten the shift to be more smooth (this is only in the 1st to 2nd shift). Hope I could help.

I'm pretty sure this is going to cause some stress on your tranny. I wouldn't recommend it. (assuming you weren't being sarcastic. )

2 years driving my z daily in Miami's bumper to bumper traffic, low rpm shift from 1st to 2nd and let the clutch out slow while applying just a little gas.

happens to me sometimes just hold the clutch change gears( i usually go back to 1st) real quick while holding the clutch and then go to 2nd again. i cant really complain that to Nissan because it happens unexpectedly and rarely.
