I'm looking to get a new car and the 350Z is one of the two I'm looking at. Couple of ?'s

-Has anyone here had a 350/fairlay imported from japan?
-Has anyone converted a 350 to a Right Hand Drive car?
-Other than emblems and the RHD thing is there any other Diff?

Thanx

no one has... on either of the first 2. a few people have rhd spec cars, but only because that is the spec for their location...

there is no other difference either.

so the question that comes up is... why would you do that? you can buy the emlems if their that important to you...

If I wanted just Badges I would get a Honda..

There is a importer that deals with Nissan directly,

And as far as the DOT is concerned on RHD cars that if the RHD version has the same crash test results as the LHD cars then it's legal.

I've e-mailed that importer today. I hope that they can do it..
If not I'll try to convert to RHD

For $50,000-$80,000? The going price for a GTR mod'd for the US.

For that price, Allot of cars come to mind and with that kind'a cash flow there's quite a few cars that can be mod'd to match/excel the GTR.

Anyone?

Has anyone even looked into the possibility of importing a Fairlady?

I find that hard to believe.

I don't understand it either, you may end up paying MORE for the same car.... and I don't know if I'm wrong, but as what I saw in Best Motoring, or Japanese magazines, Fairlady Z has the same engine spec as the Skyline GT Coupe(G35C), I mean, hp/torque figures are all the same cause of the 280hp limit in Japan... and here we have a bit more hp/torque than the G35C...
Anywayz, maybe it's only the 'advertised' engine spec are the same... but I'm not sure, from what I read/saw, fairlady has the same engine as G35C... which means you may pay more and get a Z with slightly less hp???
I'm not sure on this though, can anyone confirm?

Someone yes please confirm....If your right then this changes things.

I was under the impresion that both where powered by the VQ35DE which Dynos at around 245hp.

The 280hp law is more of a spoken thing between the companys in japan, I believe several JSpec cars have more than that.

I guess I don't understand either. Why would an imported Skyline GT (basically our "G") be a "best toy on the playground" compared to our 350Z or our Infinity G35? It's the same car with a piece of metal that says "Fairlady" on the back and has the steering wheel on the right. You'll spend a TON of money just to import it and it'll be essentially the same car.

I guess if you just HAVE to have a RHD car though........

O.K.

So does anyone know if a LHD can be converted to a RHD?

And your right, It is the same car, performance, body it even has the Z's on it.

But go to a show or a club event and say "oh yea it's a 350 just RHD converted and has the Emblems" And they say "Oooo... Looks like Rice" I don't care what's said, but they right!

Take an Stock Integra and put a R Type badge on and you get the same reaction.

It's just me, and it's just an idea. I want to see if it can be done, that's what makes Car mod'n fun.

sorry, i was confused at that point.
but anyway, let me get this clear:

you want a RHD 350z...and you live in Virginia...

why don't you spend the extra $$$ elsewhere? do you know how much money that would cost? That's not rice really...it's just kind of throwing money away.

yes they can be converted, bout 10 grand in all new dash parts, steering column setup, ect, yes it can be swapped.

but your honda comment isnt too far off base.

just wanna be cool with your RHD Z? feel better that your driving on the right? youve yet to give a reason for it, other than just cause.

the same reason people give when you ask why they have vtec type R stickers on their car.

Well.....No I don't know how much it'll cost.

I have a good idea, i.e 10k, that's why I'm here ask'n if anyone knows of a "registered" Importer in the states that could import a Fairlady Z and legally have it converted.

For some odd reason I've been asked why several times. I thought that would have been obvious, but I guess not.

So, I've contacted Motorex to see if they can do It, since they deal directly with Nissan in Japan, It will most likely be a while before I hear from them. So in the mean time does any one know of one?

Or do I have to waste posts explaining why?

no it isnt... not at all, but I guess your having fun pretending we all know why. so continue on.

motorex is the largest importer of GTRs that I know of, so that would be my guess of an importer, but if its anything more than sticking a car on the boat, they certainly wont be puting a car though crash tests when they only have 1 car to offset the cost.

Who's Pretending Ares?

Why would you want an over badged 350z?
Why would anyone at the shows want to give a FAKE Fairlady 1st?

No one is pretending except you Ares, Pretending that having the REAL JSpec FAIRLADY Z is a waste of time and money.

Motorex don't have to crash test S&!@, the SAME car( as everone has said Over and over) Is sold both Here and there that means the results are the same, all you do is get the results from Nissan.

I've got the regs from the EPA and DOT, I know what i'm talking about, you thik i'm talking out my a$$ here?
