I love when threads just degrade into nonsense.

My advice would be to hold off on your "dream car" until you are 25+ and the insurance drops. Otherwise, you may want to put a blanket and pillows in your trunk.

There is nothing wrong with driving a beater for a while. In fact, some beaters are pretty fun. I used to have an old Prelude that was a blast to beat up on tracks.

Original Poster,

To answer some of your questions:

I just bought my Z about a month ago. Plan on having it til it won't drive anymore ;]

Some of the things I like:
- The shape of the interior. Kinda like your in a cockpit, rather than a car. Seats are a woven-fiber material and bucket-style. This is all in the base model too.

- The way the vehicle drives. I came from driving an automatic Civic, so going to a 6spd Z has been a hell of a change. I just flat out enjoy driving the vehicle. Gets up quick, accelerates great at high speeds, handles turns like nothing else.

- The looks I get. I've read from a lot of people that this car gets a lot of looks. After owning it for a month, I know what they mean ;]

- Price tag. The Z is commonly referred to as the sports car for people on a budget and I agree. This is the first car that I've ever bought on my own and I can't afford to go out and get something lavish (BMW/Audi/etc). But the Z is definitely a nice car for the price tag.

What I don't like:

- Interior quality. Not to contradict my earlier pro, but a lot of the parts (i.e. door panels) are kind of cheap, including the paint. Every Z I looked at had scratches all over the interior. Sound system isn't that impressive either.

- Exterior paint. Already have a lot of paint scratches from rocks. Very hard to keep this paint in good shape.

- Maintenance/Mod Costs. As stated earlier, fixing problems and modifying the car is a lot more expensive than my Civic. I fully knew this going in, but still sucks getting used to higher costs ;/

- Visibility. I can't see s**t out the back window and there's a horrible blind spot on the driver side..

A couple of questions for you:
Are you buying this car yourself or are your parent(s) buying it for you?
Are you planning to mod it? How do you plan to pay for these mods?
Are you going to pay your own insurance?
Why is the Z your dream car? Looks/Performance?
Do you think you can be responsible with the car?

I ask the first three because they all apply to me for the first time. I'm 24 and have a full-time job where I am paid pretty well, but I still have to budget for the car. Not sure you're ready for that at 19.

ur a good man, took the time to really answer my questions,

but to answer ur question

1)im buying the car im independent i dont like people buyin my shiet, i was in school the other day (Umass Boston) n i over some dude say "my parents are going to give me a $30,000 dollar limit on a car"....LET ME EVER HAVE RECIEVED THAT OFFER!!, most i would even need is like $10,000..anyways not the point, i like to buy my stuff on my own, always have always will

2)I plan on dropping probably a little more than it already it, even though already pretty low and looks pretty nice, dont plan on doing much to it cause i know that the car will probably cost me alot to pay for and is already a ***** magnet

3)Im planning on putting it under my mothers name and being the secondary driver so insurance would be much cheaper for me (since people didnt know i have my sources, here is one of them so **** off about not achieving my goals u fukc heads, discouragement from others only motivates me more..remember that)

4) Z is my dream car cause the body just amazes me so much and i never get tired of seeing it (Funny story: im on the highway and i see a 350z creeping up behind me, so i slowed down and followed behind him for like 30 minutes till he got off the highway i stood there paying attention to the Z more than the road, obcessed much?) I like the performance 2 but i just love the body the most

5) I know i can be responsible for the car, i like to perform most of the maintenance on my cb7 cause ive went through so many problems with it and i have experienced alot from working on it, ive achieved every goal ive set for myself for the past 4 years and it aint about to end now(where im from im known as a leader, never been a follower, always the designated driver, and known as a real nikga, i aint about no bs, never have never been never will, like i said b4 ill have my Z next summer, and for those who doubt me: keep up the discouragement and watch me have it even before next summer hits)

6) you dont have to think that im ready, if you've never met anybody as motivated as me then thats not my problem, just know that i got my ways

If you had posted this in the General section, you might have gotten a few more genuine remarks. Wrong section, but thats ok. OP, my best advice I can give you is to read the top 100 questions, and spend some time lurking to get your answers.

However, even though this question has been asked ad nauseum, it is a valid question because opinions change quite quickly. We have some haters here, and some true enthusiasts.

I'm cleaning up this thread and moving it to General. OT is where people generally goof off so your responses will vary and as you can see sometimes they arent always on topic or even pleasant.

Otherwise, welcome. Lurk some, try to contribute positively and someday you might find yourself in the good graces of the mighty Hraesvelg.

/bows to Hraes. LOL

EDIT: I love my Z. The culture, the design, the looks, the general enjoyment it provides is well worth the price of the moderate price tag. Truly one of the best if not the best bang for the buck vehicles.

Prepare to get flamed cause the old farts on the forums dont enjoy it when us 'youngin's' get Z's, even if we pay for it.

They just jealous.

But get the Z and you will love it. It will turn heads and you will get compliments as well as reliability. Enjoy!

Its a great car. Lots of fun and looks good too. I plan on keeping it forever unless I can trade it for a Sagaris. No more cons than with any other vehicle, Just different issues. The later years have fixed some of them. Make sure you learn your car before you have fun. be safe and not stupid. Just search or view some of the threads to see what i mean by that. Remember it is a 3000+lb vehicle with a measely 180lb driver or pedestrian.
Oh also make sure you have money to pay for it, dont mod until you're SURE you have money in the bank or coming from occupation. few younger people have posted issues with paying for car or trading due to inability of paying car note. research before you purchase a part or mod, as well before you ask. Most answers have already been given on this forum and we dont need to repost them for you or us. Start researching now so you know a bunch before you purchase as well it will better inform you of your purchase. you might not want the vehicle in a year after learning what some of these guys already know. Im not poor nor rich but know I could have made a better choice for a car to modify and enjoy based on cost and availability than the 350. depends on your taste. Uh ok, enough from this little floating rock.

don't let someone stop you or second guess your decision on a car you want. If you want it, get it, if not then don't.

Pretty much, JUJU covered ALOT. Be safe driving and remember that rear wheel drive is going to be a bit different if you're coming from FWD.

TCS is your friend during rain; and an overwhelming majority of people with Z's complain about driving in snow (wouldn't know, it doesn't snow here.)
