On a car that is a lighter shade such as this car, any proper body shop should be primering the piece in a similar shade of the final color to ensure the best color match and no bleed through. It's just like applying a base coat. For darker colored cars, it doesn't matter, unless there are metallics or candy's involved

Usually the closer the primer color is to the final paint color, the less base color you need to match the paint color. Paint colors are usually transparent to a degree meaning the base, or primer will show through until you get enough final base cover on for the paint match. Grey primer is good for silver and grey paints. Red primer for reds, purples, burgandys, and black works well for darker shades. The right choice in primers will save time and money in the end when matching paint and using less of the expensive final color base coat. I had a car using Martin Senior color bases priced at 330.00 per Pint. Having the right primer was a huge help in keeping the base color costs down.

Color itself isn't the only factor in determining cheap or expensive - the type of paint used has everything to do with it as well. You can buy Silverstone for example that is $50 a quart, or you can buy it for double, maybe even triple or more than that, depending on the brand, and the system within that brand. Same goes for clears - like anything else there is cheap, midlevel and expensive. That's why all these posts that ask for the price to paint something vary so much, because materials vary so much. It's like asking how much a tire is, without saying the brand, or the size

Yeah it all comes down to what kinds of paints are being used and what type of base is involved in the paint as well. I somewhat dislike getting parts of my cars re painted or painted in general because factory paint jobs are always the best and most durable.

I could not disagree more

I hope you live in another country and that price is not US dollars .. martin senior is cheap @ss sherwin williams paint they sell at napa auto parts stores
more like less than $30 / pint .. painted my brothers 280zx with that paint for $150 (get a gallon base, gallon clear, and all the reducers and hardeners from the sherwin williams store)
.................................
as for tinting the primer .. if you are using some "good" auto paint (ppg, dupont, etc) .. you dont need to tint the primer, just tint the sealer
unless you are using junk paint like sherwin williams that doesnt need sealer .. then just tint the primer
