Looking into a header and since we have no heat shields, has anyone used header wrap? It looks like 2 inch wide cloth wrap, and it's supposed to stick on the headers after you wet it and wrap it. It costs like 60 bucks a roll and i'm not sure if that wraps just one side or both, but has anyone used it and is it worth it?

my friend uses it on his modded fiero. not sure what companies are out there and quality, but he said his works really well - he can touch the insulating wrap shortly after turning the engine off.

it's actually supposed to protect your engine from fire not cause one. but he also has aftermarket headers so i don't know if insulating the headers will cause nissan's headers to melt, glow red, etc.

if there are not heat shields on the car as designed, then just leave things be.

edit: oops, saw that you're looking into buying a header. i doubt you'll need a wrap with a new header.

 

I seen some posts that say it gets pretty hot in the engine compartment after buying aftermarket headers. The stock heat shields cannot be mounted on the new header. Plus i have an Injen CAI that came with a heat shield but i guess it screwed into the ex manifold heat shield screw holes too, so with both missing, i figured it's gonna get hot in there. What use is a cold air intake if its gonna get warmed up again on the way in. Anyways, thanks for the reply!

 

I wrapped my CAI with a heat shield:

Took it by Strictly Z and we monitored the intake temp before and after and saw a drop of 18 degrees after the CAI was wrapped.
You can pick it up from Summit- $40 bucks- one heat shield is long enough to be cut in half and wrap two CAI's (upper metal portion after MAF). Find a buddy and it's $20 each.
