Unhappy front windshield chipped

I was driving from Hwy45 from Galveston back to Houston, then all of the sudden I heard a loud *bang*. I look around and I saw a chip on my windshild! not only it was chipped, it also has a 4in hairline crack!! I was soo mad!! I drove to a nearby whidshield repair place, and they said it's hopeless, since it started to crack already..

My question is, how much does the front windshield cost? Do I have to go back to Nissan to get the OE? If I remember correctly, I think there is an AM antenna on the windshield?

Thanks!

The Nissan windshield is $834--I just had to have mine replaced recently. If you can find a good one, a replace while you wait operation is your best bet. They can tell you how much it'll cost and that will give you a good idea about whether or not to report it to your insurance and just cover the deductible.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. I know how much it sucks.

Oh if you find a good price in Houston, please let me know...

I would mind going in with you for 2 if we can work out a deal....
I live in Austin, but my parents live in the NW side of Htown. I drive there at least once a month.

Thanks

the angle of our windshield is very straight up... not so much slanted as other sports cars...

think thats why it chips so easly... the angle of deflection isnt much... so rock give more of a dead on HIT...

another reason why our front bumpers get so chipped

834 in dallas

Same exact windshield or was it thinner or thicker...I wouldnt mind a thicker one...

Maybe its just a Texas thing or the fact that We dont clean our highways or allow too many Trucks on the roads?

Windshields are covered in your insurance.

Under glass-comprehensive coverage.

You shouldn't have to pay anything, since there are no deductable on this particular item.
And claims like this will NOT go against your future premium.

I had my windshield broken 4 months after I got my car. I have full glass coverage.. Only costs $34 a year extra for 3 cars.. I was sent to a PPG glass shop the next day and had it replaced.. Thewindshield is the exact same but made much better than the factory one. The glass guy showed me how poorly the nissan glass was made.. It had many ripples and distortions.. The new on is perfect.. It took him about 1 1/2 hours to complete the job.. He told me mine was the 4th 350Z windseield he's replaced.. Must be really shitty glass.. I believe the glass shop charged my insurance company $345 for the installation.. I have a 1996 GMC Yukon. I had that windshield replaced after some one took a shot at me.. That one cost over $1500!!

So I called this place in austin, before contacting my insurance provider

They said they have factory orignals and quoted me $248.94 for install and windshield, I was like mother f...........er..., how come Nissan Service said $834.14.

She said their windshields come form the same factory but do not have the little Nissan Sticker on them...

Also said leak warranty is lifetime and Breakage is a 2 year warranty. Sounds like a good deal... Now only if I can get the insurance provider to cover that 248.94

(512) 327-6767 - GLASS DOCTOR...

I might jump on this deal.

Like k2we, I also replaced with PPG. Can tell no difference between the PPG and the OEM. I was quoted $960 for the OEM + install. The PPG cost $305 installed.

Here in TX PPG only wholesale to installer...

How does the tint, heat sensors, and rear view mirror look....

Im guessing for the Rearview they take off old windshield and reapply to the new one...

I went through an installer but they used PPG. The PPG glass is exactly like the OEM. It even came with the rearview mounting bracket pre attached.

I had my chip followed by the spreading crack all within the first 2 hours, yes, 2 hours, of my ownership of the Z. The glass shop stopped the spread which was about 7 inches befoe it was stopped. Hardly noticeble but it bugged the hell out of me seeing it every time I looked up while driving. So had it replaced with an after market one. Looked exactly the same as the Nissan one to the last detail including the little hole at the bottom left of the windshield where you can see the SIN # of the car. The difference was the after market one was Canadian$470 vs $1,200 from Nissan. Plus I would have to wait for weeks or months to have a Nissan windshield. So it was a no brainer for me.
