My Z is always the center of attention. People give me a thumbs up all the time. When I am parked in a parking lot I've seen people looking at the car, peering in. When I pull up to red light everyone looks over to see who drives this beast. It's the hottest car out right now, no question.

I get just as many haters as I do people who like it though.

There are plenty of Z-haters out there, most bred out of jealousy and ignorance.

I found a piece of chewing gum stuck right in the middle of car hood the other day. That was intentional. I'm just glad that he/she didn't key my car.

My car still gets all kinds of attention from young and old, male and female. I'm so amazed at how many complete strangers will strike up a conversation over it! I get lots of thumbs-up and OK signs, and have even had applause, but the best was getting the "we're not worthy" bow from a group of guys one day as I was driving out of a parking garage!

I still get the same question over and over from strangers, "How do you like it?" Always seemed like such a dumb question. I usually just give them a grin and ask them, "whataya think?

I got the "I'm not worthy" bow from two kids in a pizza shop once. That was pretty wild. I always find people wanting to test what their cars can do when they pull up to me. For example,
I am at a stoplight next to a Toyota RAV. They floor the car when it turns green and get a little bit of squeal. I casually pass the RAV and come to the next light. They (two guys 20-24 range) are in it. Same thing happens again when the light turns green.
I don't get it. Why???

Yeah me too. I get a lot of "How do you like it?" What an asinine question. I'm so tired of it I usually say now, "I'm really don't like it because it goes so slow." They get a shocked looked on their face until they realize I'm joking.

I had a good one the other day. Went to the mall to pick up a birthday card for my Mom and parked my usual 5 miles out so no one will park next to the Z. As I am exiting the mall and get within site of my Z I notice an old beat up truck parked right next to it and immediately start cursing to myself (I hate when people do that...I park that far out for a reason!). I pass 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids) and overhear them. Dad says to the boy "You see what I parked next to?" Boy says "Yeah thats a Z!! I want one when I grow up." Kid sister says "So what, its just a Nissan." After this I was laughing instead of cursing. (Of course I still circled the car to inspect for any dings).

I guess the girl was too young to notice the sex appeal that circumvallates our beasts

I went to Nissan the other day I go into the parts dept. to see if thy got a Nismo stuff I came out they're was about five sales reps. all around my car.. With a married couple debating on buying a Z .. My friend who works there told me they ended up buying the Z the next day..!!! Nissan owes me one...!!

Nah, it's just ricers who see that you've got a nice sports car with good wheels as opposed to their econobox-turned-ricemobile with Pep-Boys accessories everywhere. That's why they hate.

That, and because they suck.

I can see some Asians being indifferent to the Z (or Z drivers), but not hating on it. At least from what I've seen in the BA, which is fully populated with Asians. BTW, Asian here too.

I live next door to a Chevy F-body fanatic (we are talking about a VERY nice 97 Firebird, as well as a semi-restored 69 Camaro), and he used to lightly tease us to no end about the Eclipse. Now he is telling us we should come out sometime with the muscle car guys and such... seems that the Z is an imported American icon and the rear-wheel-drive makes it acceptable to these folks.
Either way, I like the car and that's all that matters. Well, that and the ear to ear grin my wife has every evening when she gets home.
Since my only day driving so far consists of the test drive, and my night driving is on the freeway at a minimum of about 80-85, I can't say that I have seen too many appreciative gestures as of yet.

im japanese and i dont think asians hate the z or their drivers either. at least not in hawaii. then again, for the most part, most people are mellow and get along here. or at least we tolerate each other.

if anything, i think it is jealousy too. you could have another nice semi-expensive sports car from another country and probably would get the same dirty looks from those kids.

man i feel old referring to 18-23 year olds as kids.
