Hey guys,
I wanted to get your input on this matter. Recently had my brothers car serviced for a nail in the tire and we thought the exhaust needed to be tightened. It is an aftermarket $995 exhaust. When we were at the dealership, the mechanic said that the clamps were leaking, and that they had to be replaced. The mechanic said the exhaust would not look and sound any different. When the car is finished, the exhaust was scratched on the edges of the tips, it was mounted crooked, and just looks bad.
My brother let the dealership know about the problems and they said bring the car back on Monday, and after more inspection we find that the exhaust is scratched too.
What would you guys do in this situation? I feel as though this Audi, Porsche, and VW dealership should have much more respect for their customers cars. I feel that they should cover the cost of a new exhaust seeing as though the tips are not replaceable.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

How did they scratch it by replacing clamps? Unless the clamps are on the pieces that were scratched.
Is it a show car? Most street car have exhausts that a beat to hell thanks to rocks and other stuff you pass over from daily driving. How do you know the scratches weren't there before they worked on it?
Perhaps more details about the make of exhaust, pics of the scratches and pics of the clamp locations would help your case.
In the end, it between you and them. We can all agree with you that they should replace it for free, but that won't help your case. You've got to prove it to the service deparrtment that they damaged it, not us.

DavesZ#3- They said, that they had to take off the exhaust to be able to get the clamps on. He made it seem that the clamps would be the same as the others and there would be no change in how it looked. It really looks put together poorly, the exhaust rattles terribly now. It isn't a show car but my brother polished the exhaust frequently. Im a 100 percent positive that the scratches were made by them just dragging it on the ground, its very easy to tell. I would take a picture but my camera is broken. It just makes me mad that they see a quality exhaust and go ahead and scratch it.
About a year ago, This dealership also had neglected to mount up the engine correctly and another shop pointed it out. And we went back to the dealership, let them know of the problem and they said the mechanic had other things on his mind because his kid was sick. No excuse to forget to mount up an engine correctly.

same thing happened to me...mienekie actually burnt my tip...idk how or why they did, but they ended up just doing the work for free...still had to live with the ugly tip, that is until i got my nismo, I wont go near a muffler shop now...
Why did you have a shop that you knew had done poor work in the past work on your car? We can't really tell you what to do here... go to the shop and express your concerns, either they agree to make it right or they don't.

I understand that you guys can't tell me what to do, I just wanted to vent a little. I don't have a camera at the moment so I can't take pics. I guess I will be going to the other dealership thats 20 miles away instead of this one from now on.

I wonder what your reaction would be if someone dropped your expensive exhaust on the ground and scratched it to hell.
...but I guess I should stop whining.
Thanks for your very useful post. You should really try to fix your elementary spelling mistakes, "whiney" is the word you are looking for.

They probably tried to hook you up with the "Burnt Titanium Tips" look and failed!

Not really trying to be a hard *** on this one by the way. Didn't think I came off as one, just a little pissed off because my exhaust got scratched.
We'll see tomorrow what the dealership says.
