Unless he has specifically stated what parts he wants (and if he had you wouldn't be on here asking us) I would agree with the gift card suggestion. If you buy something for a car guy and it doesn't fit his plan for the car then he will do one of the following:
A. not use it and you will have wasted money or
B. he will install it even though he doesn't want to to avoid hurting your feelings

To the guy who says his gf get's mad/jealous over his car and doesn't even like him being on the forums... DUMP HER, a girl like that will only make your life miserable in the long run as she apparently is immature/insecure with deep-rooted issues. Any woman that cares about you will understand that you enjoy your hobbies and not give you a hard time about it.

I agree, I am very **** about what touches my car let alone what I put on it. Does he have a local shop that he takes it to? If so get a gift card there and he could buy his own toys.

 

I ditched a girl I was dating because of this...when I got my STI, thats when I really started getting into the car community and enthusiast community...hitting up meets, and on the forums and such. She said it was stupid to be into it and I should do something better with my time...like go out and meet people and make friends...

DUH! What do you think you do at meets...MEET people who are into the same hobby???? Dumb girl...

But that turned into an argument and completely showed she did not care about my interests or that I enjoyed the hobby. Its ok, I don't expect a girl to ever enjoy cars like I do...but damn, at least be happy for me and respect that its something I enjoy
