As you also said above the 04.5 were made late 03 till summer 04, if they moved in 04 dont you think the ones made in late 03 would have a different production plant letter!

I'm confused. Your VIN checks out to be a 2004.5 but has a "T". You had to replace a sensor and you got a wideband sensor. You therefore concluded that you have a 2004.5.

Yes, 2004.5 models have wideband sensors. The 2004.5 models started the production of ULEV vehicles, therefore they came with the wideband sensors as pointed out by Sharif on post #7.

I thinks you are mis-interpreting the rules on the VIN #s. What are the last 10 digits of your VIN?

Late 03 is November, December. Production moved in January 2004. Z's were made at Togichi ("T") in November and December and the first weeks of January. Mid January production started at Oppama ("M") and ran through summer of 2004. Mine was made on December 18th for example.

Then how can you say that if your car has T it couldnt be an 04.5 you say that 04.5 were made for 3 months at the "T" plant!
I know my vehicle was made in late 03 since it was purchased jan 04, so if it were an 04.5 and made bofore they moved to new plant it would have a "T" in its Vin# right? Thus making Your M theory not a way to diffinitivly tell if its an 04.5!
I have based my opinion that i have an 04.5 on many things not just that i have wide band sensors i was letting others know that wideband O2 is a surefire way to tell since suspensioin and interior affects can be changed, O2 harness and ecu not so simple!

The simplest way i have found is to locate the O2 sensor connection in the engine bay, passenger side is easiest to get to if the plug is rounded at corners and has 4 prongs its an 04. If it has 6 prongs and plug has squared corners its a wideband O2 sensor and must be a 04.5 or later! (also useful to know if you ever want to replace your O2)
this is a easy tell. so would you say the 04.5's have the knee pad? on both sides with the o2 being a wideband?

BTW - if you don't have physical access to the car, what use is the O2 sensor connector? With the VIN, you can always tell.
so with the M being in the vin, it will determine that its a 04.5? im like comparing differences in the vins and the pictures on ebay.

Yes. "M" means it was produced at Oppama. All cars produced there were 2004.5.

Some of the cars produced at Tochigi ("T") were 2004 and some were 2004.5. After a certain date, they started producing 2004.5 there and change the VIN sequence number as indicated in my first description.

It's not that hard to figure out - we've been doing it for the past 6 years.

Please point out where I've said if it has a "T" in it it can't be a 2004.5. I've been trying to explain to you in every one of my posts the exact opposite. Both 2004 and 2004.5 cars were made at Togichi. You should have been able to tell that from my first post that explained the VIN sequencing.

Sorry but I don't know how to explain it in a more simple form.

DavesZ#3 didn't say that. If you read his original post carefully, he states that all coupes with the VIN #'s from D*4T160001, E*4T060001 and on ARE 2004.5 models ("T" in the VINs there). If your car has a "M" vin it's also a 04.5.

I apoligize for the miss understanding but it wasnt very clear DaveZ you are correct 04.5 have either "T" or "M" in there vin# and are within those numbers.
But if your out on a lot you probably wont remeber those vin# ranges so a simpler way would be if it is listed as a 2004 but has knee pads check under hood for a square six prong O2 sensor on passenger side 6 inches down from the engine bay plaque under that large wire harness if it has squared corners it has wideband sensors and is a 04.5 (you would probably first notice knee pads)!

I'm gonna have to go check my VIN now; curiosity got the best of me.

BTW, what's the skinny on your Avatar, Armitage? I'd love to hear the story behind that one.

(looks like you got by the Dragon)

This is quite helpful. Bringing it back from 2010 but it made me curious. One less thing to wonder about haha.
