Default 126 days and still no 350Z...

I placed my order for an 04 Super Black Enthusiast 6MT back on June 21st, and as of today I still don't have it. They said it'd be a 60-90 day wait, and then they later said it might be 120 days since the Roadster is coming out too and it might push orders for the Coupe back a bit.

I called them at around the 85 day mark, and they told me that my expected arrival date would probably be first week of November (120+ days).

It's been a long wait . I just hope they CALL within the next two weeks.. that's probably my biggest fear, that they won't call at all. It's been such a long wait, I think sometimes I've convinced myself that I didn't even order the car, ugh.

i decided to buy in mid september (this year). i got the car early october. and my perf had to be exactly what i wanted.

your dealer is d!cking you around. now that he has your deposit, you're a guarenteed sale for him, and he can keep you waiting. even if he has your car, he'll sell it to someone else. until he gives you a trackable VIN, you've got nothing.

you're in california, you should not have a problem finding this car. but it will take some legwork. visit every dealer in your area. find a salesman, waste some of his time showing you the car, take a testdrive, talk some bullsh!t. then tell him, "i'm ready to buy a car today. here is exactly what i want. find it for me." they'll try to push on you whatever they have on the lot at the moment. accept no substitutes, tell them this is it or nothing (i had one dealer tell me it was impossible and throw me out). some dealers own multiple lots and they'll search their inventory. others do car trades with other dealers to match customers with what they want. if they can't commit to getting you the car on the lot by tomorrow, take the salesman's card, give him your phone number, shake his hand, say "thanks for your time. call me when you have this car and i will buy it from you", and walk away. now the salesman is working for you, because when he finds you the car, he gets the commission for the sale.
amazingly, though, most salesmen are not so proactive about it. by the time most of them called me back, i was already driving my new car. do searches on the nissanusa website, daily. yes, the search feature there sucks azz, but do it anyway. new cars come in every day, and dealers don't really know what they have coming. when you see a dealer got your car, call them up to verify it's really there. then tell the salesman to put a sold sign in the window because you're on your way there right now to buy it. if he's the same guy you talked to before, he'll remember you. he'll remember how he missed out on selling you a car the other day, and it wasn't even his fault, because they didn't have what you wanted and you walked away (but his boss still gave him **** about it). if it's not him, hell, he'll still take an easy sale instead of giving one of the other salesmen a shot at moving this car (and earning the money on it).

i'm guessing you'll have it in much less than 120 days this way. the enthusiasts are not too rare. also, if you're in southern california, give jeff@performance nissan in duarte a call. he posts here often, and seems to have hooked up several people.

Whether out of paranoia or not, I was thinking that too: did he simply just sell my car to someone else when it came in who was willing to offer him a higher price for it? I know the usually wait time for an order is 60-90 days, and I know that some people have had to wait for 100 to even 110 days, but has anyone had to wait for more than 4 months for their order? I guess I just wanted to know if my situation was unique or not or whether anyone else has had the same experience.. almost everyone I know is asking me, "dude, when are you getting your car?"

I'm going to call him at the end of this week (Nov. 1) to see what he has to say. If he gives me another run around or doesn't call me by Nov. 7, I'm probably going to take your advice: buy it somewhere else. It'll probably cost more, but this wait is becoming ridiculous.

Get ur money back and go to another dealer. There are so many Zs in every lot and no reason to wait for an order. Call NNA and tell them about ur dealer. They definitely have ur money but not ordering ur car. They are ordering whatever car they want with their own interest in mind.

Yo Crayons,

I've been waiting for mine since the end of JUNE! They tried to find one but ended up ordering one the first week of August.

Last I heard the date is November 7th. And thats coming from NNA, not the dealer. Although, no VIN number yet, so I'm getting VERY suspicious...............

And yes the wait has been sucking for me too! Getting really sick of everyone and my mother asking "When you getting your car?"

when the car is off the train and onto the truck to be delievered to your dealer, it will then show up in your dealer's inventory (with VIN) on nissanusa.com

just FYI

Glad to see I'm not the only one, heh. I was wondering, if the dealership has already cashed the deposit, what keeps them from refusing to refund the $1,000 to you? Back in June when I left him the check, I asked him to make sure, "Is this deposit fully refundable?" and he said something vague like, "Oh of course it is.. if you cancel your order then you will receive back your deposit as soon as the car sells." I thought that was odd, but I didn't give much thought to it since I never thought that cancelling my order would be a possibility. I checked my bank account a day later and it had already been cashed. But in any case, what keeps him from delaying my refund or simply refusing it until "the car sells" to someone else?

I had originally ordered the car because it was a bit cheaper to do so back in June (got $600 over invoice + TTL). I didn't mind the wait because I figured I would get it before summer was over. But.. like I said earlier, this wait is becoming ridiculous and I wouldn't mind paying that extra money to have the car now at another dealership.

Yeah, from what I've read, its up to the dealer if they want to give your deposit back....mine was $ 400 and was cashed the next day. I'd love to cancel and go elsewhere, but will probably lose the deposit. Dont really want to lose it and go thru all that salesman crap again so I wait........Supposedly got a good deal also (they always tell you that!) and are paying off my Cougar for me so I cannot complain too much........

I guess if your willing to possibly lose your down payment, I'd say look elsewhere

What's the difference between a confirmation number and a VIN number? All I have is a copy of the order form ("350Z Pre-Release Order Form & Buyer's Order Worksheet") and the carbon copy of my $1,000 deposit check.

The confirmation number is supposedly a number in the Nissan computer ordering system, the dealer gets this number when he places an order. This is what I was told. This just tells me that the car is in the system and is actually being built.

The VIN (Vehicle Identification number) on the other hand is a permanent number.

When they give you a VIN, then you know you hdve a car. Guess what, They don't have jack. My suggestion woulb be to get your $ back, and go somewhere else.

Default still waiting

I ordered mine on July 19th. Finally got a VIN on Oct 15th. Dealer gave me a computer printout showing a delivery date of the week of Nov 7th. He had several others come in 4 or 5 days early so I am hoping it shows up later this week or early next week. Getting so close the wait is unbearable.
