Question Any ideas on decreasing road noise....

I'm curious because we took a trip to Metrolina this weekend and it was kind of loud. I was wanting to do some kind of sound treatment to keep roadnoise out. Would an under coating do the trick? Any other ideas?

DynaMat works well. They sell it at Circuit City / Best Buy, etc.

I was thinking about that as well but I thought it only helped keep sound in not out. Am I wrong on this? Does anyone else even notice this?

Yes, the noise level in my opinoin is to high when you have all the windos up. I noticed that the floor carpet is rather thin and allows the road noise into the car, I have done some under coating and it helped, my next step will be to insulate the floor board.

It sounds like it is coming from the back. It's not a defect, just road noise. More like a lack of insulation. The roads were also wet so I'm sure that amplified it some too.

Sometimes I think the noise level is fine and other times I think it's just a little too high for long trips. I'm in the process of making a mat to go under the luggage compartment carpet out of this material (the 1/2 inch version):

Put it in Sunday but haven't driven the car since then. I may put some under the rear luggage compartment trim as well, but I'm starting with the simplest solution first.

I had my Touring undercoated by Ziebart, They are nationwide, I paid about 320.00

Ziebart in Gulfport, Ms. did the undercoating, it definetly decreased the road noise and protects the underbody, I have a condo on the Coast and salt air and sand can be hell on a car.

Driving in the rain was the best test for the undercoating, I do not hear the tires or the water as much as I heard in the past.

If you can find a Ziebart dealer or someone similar they can show you the diffrence before they touch your car, I think you will be pleased with the outcome.

Good Luck

The road noise keeps me awake for trips.

I just can't stand the tire growling...

The tires on my Z suck bad. They just get louder and louder, but they are now wearing fine after being replaced by the dealer and getting a 4 wheel align. But they still make noise.

I blame the tire!

No Ziebart remotely close, but I will look into undercoating more seriously. Thanks for the help.

if you line the trunk area especially above the wheel well area it should help quite a bit with the road noise.
