Default Low Mileage/Weekend Car insurance?

Sorry if there's an existing thread about this - I tried searching "low mileage", "weekend car insurance" etc. but no relevant results...

The Z has been a weekend car for me for a few years now. Less than 50K miles since 2005.

Anyone know of a good way to get low rate insurance for low use vehicles? I'm currently with Progressive at $600/6mos. but their 'MyRate' program that requires an OBD2 tracking module (eww) only promises a 5-25% reduction in rates. Also, I don't like that they can jack your rates up based on acceleration data (I like to drive my Z on the weekends - if you know what I mean).

If anyone has good suggestions plz. let me know - gotta renew soon!

I know a lot of insurance companies offer "recreation" use insurance for cars that arent frequently used. I would shop aroud and see what kinds of rates you can get.

I got my car insured with the cheapest company I could find and the least amount of coverage my lease would allow. It's insured with me as the only driver and only as a recreational or occasional use car.

It's still $600/6 months.

However, the terms of my lease require quite a lot of coverage, so you could probably get covered for less depending upon your options. I went with Travelers as they had, by far, the cheapest coverage.

Maybe but insurance companies do not like these policies. You may be penalised for high miles (25,000 plus). But seldom rewarded for low miles. Good luck.
