Default Good or bad buy

Quick question,

Its a 2004 deytona blue 350z, with new 18 rims with excellent tires, 6MT with 60k miles and its a performance trim. Engine sounds great, drives perfectly, clean carfax and good title. But here is the thing, there was a previous repair done to the right side of the car, the door and fender and quarter panel were repainted and possibly though unlikely the quarter panel was replaced, it was professionally done only a mechanical can spot it. There is also a few scratches on the front and rear bumper nothing too big. I can buy it for 10,700 is that a good deal? should I? I currently drive 2003 E46 M3 and plan to keep both cars if I buy 350Z, the reason for buying a second car at such young age is that I just love the Z's so much, one of the best looking cars ever

Thanks

Yes and yes... and while I'm making decisions for you, please hand over the keys and title to me.. Consider it a goodwill gesture. It will make you feel better.

Doesn't sound too bad. However, how did the mechanic notice the damage? Undercarriage inspection? Just a visual?

yeah, thanks man. it retails over 16k and private party is around 13,800 so 3k discount sounds good.

not undercarriage inspection, just a visual. He is a good buddy of mine. So what can be the worst case scenario with previous damage like this?

Worst case scenario is that the paint looks good but the repairs underneath a poorly executed. Does the seller have receipts for the work or can he tell you more about it? The low price is a red flag to me (the old "if it's too good to be true, it usually is")... Just take your time and do your homework. Always remember when your looking to buy that there are always more cars and you don't need to make hasty decisions, especially $10k ones.

Def. find out what happened.... I remember when I had my '06, it was parked in the companies parking lot and one of the workers parked the box truck beside it. Then when he went to back it out turned the wheel to sharp and ran the box truck bumper down the side of my f'in car... they had to replace the door skin and rear fender because the metal was creased.... would cost more to try to repair it.... I was irrate to say the least. Got it fixed and it paid for my body kit to be painted at the same time

I have seen far too many cars that fit into this category lately.

Interesting, I am surprised that the title is clean and so as the carfax report. How are some cars avoid being spotted by that?

don't be scared by a little body work.. or new paint..
as long as its clean title don't worry

to me it sounds like a really nice deal.. id be more worried about the mechanical features of the car.. does it run and sound good.. shift well ect.. check that over more than the visual aspects such as paint..

think of it this way.. if it didn't have a lil body work and paint.. your price may be more like $13,000

drive it.. listen to it.. and check its fluids look also for things like tires.. a lot of Z's get sold with poor worn tires (which is part of the value of the car)..

but yea man i think its a really nice deal
go for it

I will post pictures of the M3 and the Z later. The M3 is no doubt a better car, or at least better is some aspects. Performance wise M3 is a lot faster and better around corners, but there is some thing so fun about driving a Z I cant explain it.

That's the thing the rims and tires are brand new, all gears engage perfectly, engine sounds great. That's why I am little worried too goo to be true

If that Z is running right, an E46 M3 should be about half a second faster in a 1/4 mile sprint, but the 2 cars handle equally well. Too bad you're not looking to spend a little more and get an 07 or 08 350z with the HR engine . Then you'd have car equal to the M3 in all performance aspects, especially with good tires.

I think you were misinformed, the HR is a much better design than the DE, and it isn't known for burning oil. You're probably thinking of the revup engine that came in the 35th and the '06.
