No offense, dude, but that's a lot of car for a 16 year old. Regardless of how mature she is.

My daughter is extremely mature & responsible and I sent her to a defensive driving school, but I bought her a Honda Civic. That's enough car for any teen driver, IMHO.

But remember - it's NJ and the snow doesn't fall on the roads - just everywhere else.

 

The snow does fall on the roads in NJ; however it is quickly plowed and within a day or two the roads are clear. This is not unique to NJ. Other areas of the country also have snow plows.

By the way the M3 is an incredible car. I still like the 350Z and will still take it out for a ride occasionally, but compared to the M3 the Nissan is crude.

 

Two things;

First, I know for a fact the roads in New Jersey are some of the worst in the country in regards to snow and removal. I literally deal with it every night....

Second, I don't care if there's nothing more than a dusting on the ground, it is NOT suitable for even an experienced driver to be on the roads in a RWD sports car, let alone a 16 year old.... but hey, it's only your daughter.....so....

 

So for a day or two, your daughter won't have the use of the car? Of course i still maintain the 350 is not suitable for a 16 year old even when the roads are dry in the summer, but hey, that's just me. and almost everyone else in this thread it would appear. As said, though, that's you call, it's your kid.

Actually, I'm retired copper. After retiring I returned to school and earned an EE degree. I then went to work as an RF engineer with one of the world's leading defense companies. After working for six years as an engineer I was promoted to an engineering management position. So, I might have a little someting on the ball.

I beleive I have enough experience and know my daughter well enough to allow her to drive the 350.

I don't quite understand why some of you guys are so hacked off about my daughter driving the car, unless of course you don't think she deserves it.

I was just proving to "PerfZ" that I was indeed in the right thread... according to the OP. NOW, if this thread has changed over the 400 or so pages, then that's not my fault, nor my concern. I guess y'all should've changed the subject or created another thread if the subject changed.

here's a twist to the debate.

16 year old kid buys a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD for 1500 bucks. Spends his money he saved from working odd jobs, fast food, retail, chores, etc...on mods to the car.

After a year or so of modding, the car is capable of running mid 12s in the quarter.

Is that the same as having a 350z? or G35?

Or is it the fact that someone who is under the age of 20 owning a car that is nicer than probably all of the older guys first cars the issue?

Let the kid keep his rusty DSM.

He'll learn a lot of mechanical skills over the year, especially as he gets faster and breaks more parts.

A kid that saves money and constantly dumps it into his car, albeit stupid, will most likely take better care of his stuff... simply because he does not want to blow that $800 turbo he just bought. He'll start scrapping the "look-cool" stuff, such as an atmospheric BOV, and will go back to things that work better, provide less wear-and-tear, and attract less attention.

As he starts to date women, his spending will decrease on his car, making him regret purchasing all these high-end, go-fast parts that require meticulous maintenance. He will realize that women he's interested in are more interested in him having money to take them out for entertainment or dinner, rather than listening to him talk about how fast his sweet *** ride is and what trim his turbo is.





A lot of peoples' cars are nicer than my starting car... 1988 Plymouth Voyager... but I learned to appreciate my possessions. I learned what it was like to have to fend for myself, and keep a crappy car running just off my skills and a little bit of money. That minivan is where I really started to learn about cars.
