How do you know when damage is reportable?
This is my first car and I don't know if this is a silly question or not.. I live in NY where I understand that my car will get treated like sh*t out on the street but how much should I just accept?
I get to my car and find damage (attached img) I know that getting it fixed will most likely cost more than the loose change in my pocket but its gonna annoy me so much seeing this everyday..
so how do you know when its too much? aside from the obvious hit and run or front-to-back deep scratch of course.

Ill have to check with the local custom shop guys and see if they have some sort of deal with a body shop.. I'd hate to have to shell out $150+ for this.

I had the same exact thing a few years ago, some ****ing moron must've tapped me while parking behind me in an illegal spot and I had the imprint of a screw from his license plate on my rear bumper. I let it be until I swapped bodykits.

To be honest. If you parked it in the street i am almost positive that someone has tried to get into or out of the spot in front of you. And either there license plate screws or maybe one of those big protruding bumpers say on SUV's hit your car.
Assuming you live in the city. It is kind of weird but rarely do people have time to think about scratching someones car in NYC from what i have observed. Less they are from NJ...lol!
HAHA Gidup....beat ya!!

Actually this is an interesting point. I worked for a year in NYC about two years back. One of the things I never quite got over was seeing cars hit other parked cars on a daily basis. I even knew a girl there who was from NY who would basically pull backwards until she hit the other car to know how far back to go--she said it was common in NYC. I saw those 'bumper beaver' covers everywhere (I know I'm still laughing at the name.) I left my Z back west but it was SHOCKING that it was so common. Every day on the way to and from the subway I would watch one car get hit as someone was pulling in or out. I remember thinking that without a garage (and even those were chock full of cars parked an inch from each other) I could never drive a sports car here--aaand thus never live here permanently.
I should point out that in the other two cities in which I have lived, Los Angeles and Denver, the custom seems to be that if the bumpers go click--meaning ANY contact--that is an accident. OP-your damage may not be worth making a huge fuss about, just pay it yourself. But I would DEFINITELY watch for the next idiot who did it--and I would definitely make them pay.
