350z cost of ownership
Who is your insurer, and where do you live? $265.00 every six months for full coverage is insanely good. Please reply, as I'm also paying $120.00 a month for full coverage, and that's with a flawless driving record @ 35.
The Z is a lot more expensive than Hondas.. My previous car was an 2000 Integra GSR it only took $35 max for gas a week. Now I spend about $50 a week which is $200/month. I know where you're coming from because I'm going to school and working part time also. It's really your preference, you get what you pay for. The ride and power in the Z cannot be compared to my old GSR (though i still miss her), but if your finances are tight it's probably safer to stay with the civic.
State Farm in southwest Georgia, no accidents since 1973, one minor at-fault accident in 1964, no tickets in past ten years, three vehicles and house with same insurance company, driver ed and school bus driver as teenager, recent safe driving course. My wife has an even cleaner driving record.
OP, be ready to drop at least a hundred bucks for a good set of front or rear brake pads...all four will run you around 200$
Higher than most cars.. yes
High or low compared to other sports cars.. I'm interested to know

Man you guys have it good. Up here In Vancouver my insurance is $3300 a year with 15% discount and no claims/accidents ever!
Regarding OP. As most people are saying the cost of ownership of a 350z is significantly higher. I wouldnt be so concerned with the oil changes and what not as those have to be done on every car and with relatively the same frequency. But things that you will want to look into are:
Im a full time student and i work a lot too. I find that it doesnt cost too much. But the modding is what gets you especially when you see a fair price on something that you really want. lol.

- Gas consumption
- insurance
- parts and labor costs for repairs
- tires (depend on environement of where you live, weather, construction etc.)
- Mod bug (this is probably the most expensive part of owning the car)

Last time I though about it my Z costs me $1000+ a month pretty easily when I factor in car payment, insurance, fuel, maintenance and mods.
$250 or so for fuel
$120 for insurance
$60 every 2nd month for an oil change
Some general maintenance costs to think about. These had to get done on my 03:
I did 4x brake pads last winter for $350 for just parts. Front rotors were about $140 each. Rear CV joint C/W axle $220 parts only.
It`ll need tranny work soon (3rd gear grind), and I expect it to need a clutch within the next 2 years.
Some things that are mods but that can be considered maintenance as well that I have done: Coilover shocks $1300, Air Filter, Spark Plugs etc...
Holy cow your insurance companies are ridiculous! I am 23 (22 when I bought it). I have full coverage with one ticket on my record (got teh rest removed haha) and my insurance is $90 a month for full! It cost me $40 to fill up per week getting roughly 28mpg. I spend about $30 bucks on oil changes using castrol full synthetic bc I change it myself.
Tires is the biggest thing I dread...I have an 03 performance model and my camber is slightly off, but not bad so I have to buy new ones every 30ish K miles and they are almost twice as much as my last car!

^you could do that, but if we are being completely honest with ourselves, not a single one of us is driving these cars to just get from point A to point B. They are nice cars (not over the top, but still nice). We want to stand out, and be noticed, and is there honestly a better time to do this than at college?! I attend a small private school with only around 1,000 people and I am the only Z at the school. I'm not going to lie, it makes me feel good when I see heads turn, and when I get asked "is that really your car?"
I say if it's not going to stretch your wallet too much then go for it. Just make sure you get a decent one, and take your time when picking. You don't want to buy the first one you see, take a look around first. I think you will be really happy with it.

let's see..this year
$460 for new tires
$150 in oil changes...3 times@$50
$90 for new belts
$50 for new front pads
total=$750 excluding gas
That's not bad.. It will be less than that next year.
