I agree and I did the same thing when I first got it, luckily I managed to miss the curves, but if you just stick to the basics of not making abrupt changes to the car while in a turn you will be OK, don't smash the accelarator pedal in the middle of a turn in second gear or jam on the brakes in the middle of a turn, these things will shift weight suddenly and the car wont like it. When you shift in the middle of the turn you send the weight forward to the front wheels and then when you smash the accel pedal you apply all the power to the rear wheels which have no weight on the hence no traction it doesn't matter if you have RE040's or Pirelli's, you need to imagine your accel pedal is an egg and push gently on it.

I you keep these things in mind you will be OK. Not preaching but just passing on what I have come across, this might be already known but who knows.

ALL tires need time to heat up...especially with a car like the Z.

It is simply NOT smart to turn off the VDC like that.

Didn't mean to preach, like I said I was probably 6 inches from having the same fate, after doing some track events I learned a lot about the car, this is my first powerful car.

Don't listen to the ones that say you need to heat up your tires, this is not Nascar and tires only heat up from putting a load on them from turns, going straight doesn't cause enough heat otherwise tires would blow on long drives.

I am not an expert by any means but I think the tidbits I learned are useful.

Hope you get your car back soon and in the shape you are happy with, I was only rear ended and it was painful.

just shoulda warmed the tires up first. live and learn. still sucks though.

and jedoublery, i'm not looking for a pity party, but i'm also not asking people to tell me i'm a moron. my wheels do that well enough for me. :-P
than learn how to drive if you're going to have it off

What other reason, besides street racing, would you turn it off for? You can't push the car to it's limits through twisties on public roads (like you can on tracks)....so why even disable VDC

Look at the positive side. You could take the insurance money for the two track wheels and that should be enough for a full set of volks or other wheels. It doesnt get that cold in austin.

Pure Tremble: You dont have much fun driving do you?

tony: yeah! s.point nissan just called me to make sure i was ok (the car was dropped off at their service center) and he told me that one wheel is $1400. they have to replace 2. (a third got scuffed.) he told me that they'd probably end up machining the scuffed one.

oh, and do you drive on 2222 alot? there aren't many db's in austin that i know of but i always see one on 2222 when i'm driving to and from school. just wondering if that was you

My nephew did this same thing to his Dodge Hemi. He is 21 years old and young for his age . Lets see it took them 2 months to fix his truck and it cost him several thousand $$ for the rental car plus $500 deductable for the insurance. Plus his insurance costs went up big time. These lessons are alway expensive. Just glad that she was not hurt. I would suggest a fun driving course like they have at Road Atlanta, a lot of fun and you she will learn a lot about driving.

Actually I'm not even in Austin right now. I am at school in NC. I will graduate in 10 days! Then I will be back in austin. And hopefully out to attend some Z meets.

DAMN!!! 1400 dollars for one wheel?? That alone is reason enough to go with the track version over any others. That does suck though, hope everything works out! At least there was no body damage!
