Default Tire Feathering?

Swapped out the stock wheels and tires for a set of LM-22's this evening. For the price I paid for the LM-22's I want to make sure that they are not going to feather. If, on the other hand, my tires are wearing well, I do not want to get an alignment and have them potentially screw anything up.

I've attached a picture of one of my stock front tires after I removed it. Can anybody tell me if this tire is feathered? I looked at them very close and some of the treads seem slightly higher than others but this is on both the inside and outside of the tire. I am not 100% sure what I am looking for.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Elmer.

Looks good to me. How many miles do you have on those tires? They really don't start to show untill after a few thousand miles from the Z's I've seen. I couldn't tell on my friends untill he had about 3,500 miles but then it started to show up really quick.

How about a picture of the tires at an angle so we can get a better look?

Thanks for the reply Grommit! The tires have over 5000km on them which is about 3100 miles. Perhaps it is too early to tell?

I can take some more pictures tonight at an angle. If you can tell me exactly what you are looking for in the angle picture, I will be sure to take it such that what you are looking for is highlighted as much as possible.

I know my tires don't look like the classic feathering ones on this site but I still have a free alignment from the dealer and if there is any sign of improper wear I would like to get it fixed before I start wrecking my expensive winter tires. On the other hand, if I got a good Z, I don't want them to screw around with the alignment and possibly worsen it.

On another note, the LM-22's seem to be pretty decent from a performance standpoint. They don't feel or sound like a traditional winter tire but they do seem to grip quite well. With that said, our subdivision was a skating rink this morning and the SLIP light was on constantly.

Thanks!
Elmer.

The upper left on pic looks like you might have the feathering but I'm not sure. Run your hand one way then the other on the tire. You should feel the ridges one way but not the other if you have feathering. My tires were rotated then replaced but it looks like my new ones are feathering as well.

Basically take a side shot of the treads so we can see them close up. The pic you took shows the top of the threads.

Here are some side shots.

If I run my hand one way, it is smooth but not as smooth the other way. So it sounds like I might have some feathering. I don't know if its visible in the pictures or not.

Thanks,
Elmer.

I have 7100 miles on my car with no feathering whatsoever.
