Guys, guys the M3 cost what, $46,500.00; and the Zee is $35,000. You add another $6,000 to 10,000 to the Zee and it'll blow most of the competition away, including the M3 class beams; for a total of $41,000 to $45,000.

Figure it out, what are you getting for the $46,000 beam; the logo

Has it occured to anyone that a number of us here alone could have got the M3; but at the end of the day we choose the Zees...just simply because we loved the Z.

It occured to me. No matter if I am buying a car or a hamburger, I want value. When I buy a burger, it has got to be good but I dont go out and buy a $20 hamburger when maybe that $6 burger is almost as good. The 350Z is a great looking car, has good performance, and if modded performs better than most cars. Maybe that is why it is the best selling sportscar in America?

If BMW and Porches owners dont get it, the people that manufacture those cars do. No wonder the boxster increased its hp and the S2000 increased its torque. Nissan did something right and they know it.

Exclamation You can't be serious

First off you can buy a Z for WAY less and get it supercharged and be taking out fast cars.

Now as far as what you said about just getting a logo with BMW.....are you serious. The E46 is an AMAZING car with a far superior interior build quality...a strong racing heritage...and sound German engineering.
I am all for the Z.....I love mine....but the E46 has alot more on us than just a logo. Your thinking is all wrong. By your logic I can spend 5K to buy a hatchback civic and make it run 1/4s in 11 sec. and all of a sudden it would be superior to the Z.

If I had to do it over again I would buy my Z but give the Bimmer its well deserved respect.

I am sorry, EnthuZiast that you missed my point.

I am aware that the BMW is a wonderful, beautifully designed, blah, blah automobile and that many find it desirable. Nothing wrong with that!

But my point was, I am not on that list.

If anyone bought the Zee but desired the Bimmer; please note that you did yourself a major disservice; as there is the “Certified Pre-Owned BMW” program, if cost was an issue.

And definitely, I am not claiming that mine is bigger than yours.

I must admit...that last part was funny

But I think your explanation left out the fact that you really were bashing the M3. No biggie....I am very well aware of the Certified used Bimmer program and could care less.
Only pointing out that there are more differences between our cars than a logo which is what you were suggesting.

Bimmer guy’s mad at us? What’s this?

Oh, now I am really upset. It just really really hurts, you know. When all you want is to be loved and all, and no matter how careful you are… And now this had to go and happen.

Can someone please go over there and ask if there is anything we can do to make us their friends again?

I am just going to sit down and have a good cry.

M3's ain't all that great at the track, in Toronto, we call it the rich boy's gettaway car. It only goes fast straight, most of the drivers who owns one doesn't have the skills to bring this car to its full potential.

Boy do I second this quote. I was at a BMW high performance driving seminar this summer (freebie and LOTS OF FUN). It turned out a couple guys in my group drove E46 M3's and couldn't drive worth a damn! It was quite funny actually. Fact of the matter is there will be a lot of people who get that car because they are rich and don't know jack about cars. But you can not say that it is a worse car. Sorry boys that is one mean peice of machinery.

And BTW to add to a previous post you can get a Z for $26k with all the same internals as the track model. The E46 M3 is almost twice the cost.

That must explain why the M3 ran the slalom 1 mph *faster* than the 350Z (68.3 versus 67.3 repsectively). Those damned M3's just can't handle.

You don't pay the extra money for the extra performance. You pay the extra money for a much higher quality car.

The SRT-4 will run with you guys any day of the week stock for stock. Does that make it as good as a 350Z? Nope. It's not even close. Same goes for the 350Z compared to the M3.

I agree with you 100%. I love the M3 also. But hopefully they stopped producing engines that blow up oops did I hit a sore spot

No, it's not a sore spot at all and a very good point to boot.

The majority of the engines that blew (over 70%) were built from Oct '01 to Dec '01. There were a few more after that but BMW issued an engine oil pump and bearing recall for cars produced from October of 2001 through February of 2002. BMW of course replaced all the engines that blew for free. After the recall it seems the issue has been solved (at least for those that took their cars in for the service mentioned in the recall).

There have been a total of 128 documented cases of blown engines since the beginning of the E46 M3's production in Sept of 2000. There were around 22,000 - 24,000 total units produced in this 3 year period with an average of 7,000-8,000 units built per year. Even if there had been 220 engines that blew, that would make the total number of M3's affected with problem engines less than 1% of the total E46 M3's that have been built.

BMW has also issued a six-year/100,000 mile warranty extension for all cars built from Oct '01 to Jan '04.

that's a good point. now if only everyone would carefully read and take the time to absorb what you just said, it would eliminate half the flame wars on these forums.

Funny, my M3 blew ( April '01 build) with 28,000 on the odo. Oh, and I am #129 on the "engines that blew".

The best motoring videos are *****. The "staged" starts are a complete joke. The lap times would be different if they wern't caught behind the slower cars. To be fair, let them all do a flying lap.... see who laps fastest. the end.

To the guy that said he could beat an SMG? uh, no that probably won't happen. Your best bet is a crappy driver of a 6 speed. When I have run with 350Zs, I have pulled pretty hard from 60+ mph and by 100 I usually have 2 cars or so and the lead gets ugly after that.

I actualy like the 350Zs though and if/when they offer a S/C from the factory, I will probably check one out.
