Question Anyone having fuel tank issues?

I went to fill up today (was on E) and it only took 7.5 gallons and then stoped. OK. So I try to stuff more in and it wasnt having it. I shook the car thinking maybe there was an air bubble or something. I waited a minute for everything to settle. I then had to fight to get another 4.5 gallons in there. Any ideas????
Thanks,
Jeff

its a very common problem. you get the auto cutoff at 1/2tank; nissan has said it is a sideeffect of a new saddle bag gas tank design.

as best as I can tell it stems from the angle the car is on when you put the gas in. not sure which way it needs to be for it to work; but if it doesnt work at a pump once, it never does; and if it does work, it always will. with time youll get to know which pumps wont work. and when you find one that does, itll be your best friend.

I thought I was level, but come to think of it I have never used that specific pump. I've used the station many times. Next time I will try a different pump. I get gas at the Wal-mart. With my gift card it is only $1.47 per gallon.

have had this problem since day one---six months later, the only way I've found around it is to turn the handle of the gas pump 90 degrees -- you look like a moron at the pump, and your hand gets tired, but it's the only way it works- I watch closely tho as I'm not sure if the auto shut off will shut off before she overflows. . .

I know sometimes when I fill my mum's intrepid if I've got the gas nozzle all the win in the hole it will stop prematurely. Pull the nozzle out a bit and try filling.

Some wal-marts down here have gas stations. The gas is normally around $1.50 for premium but if you use a wal-mart gift card, you automagically get 3 cents off per gallon. Up front it may not seam like a lot, but when you look over a years time, it adds up. I think it is a national thing if your wally world has pumps. As for the gift card, we put on enought cash to cover us for the month on food and gas. Kind of a simple budget. When the card runs out, so do we.

This has happened to me only one time (I have owned the car for a year with over 10,000 miles). It was a real cold day and at the same gas station I always go to. I think its random because I've filled just fine under the same conditions with the same pump many times before it happened...and many times after.

I was always told never to let your car go below 1/4 a tank because thats where all the crap in the gas tank settles? Whether its true or not, I have made it a habbit with the Z to stay above a half tank at all times. Have dropped twice below half tank and it was only on accident.

While driving nothing in my tank has time to settle. It's always being whipped around!

OK, here's another question about the fuel tank. When you guys open up the filler door and look in the filler cap area (around the metal neck that sticks out that the cap screws into) does the weld around there look rough? I mean, really really rough? Mine does...it's awful, it actually looks like someone did a crappy caulking job. Does everyone else have this as well as the fill up problem?

I didnt notice any bad welds but I got worried about not seeing the little flap that closes the hole. Then I couldnt even remember if there was one. Still cant. Some help would be nice.
