Fight the ticket boss, you will probably win. Especially if you bring that copy/pasta u got from the Law.

I have had my share of cops who think they can just BS ticket ppl for no reason. If you take it to court, bring statements of exhaust compliency in 50 states with noise, carb or w.e you will most likely win, unless the judge is a hardcore muscle car guy/girl.

God help u then LOL

completely disagree. dont chalk it up. You did nothing illegal. no sense in paying for something that was never wrong. its definately not a "loosing/losing" battle.

I wonder if they'd ticket someone driving a Zonda with stock exhaust.

This is ridiculous. When I had my 03 Maxima I had a full Cattman exhaust including headers (I know headers probably aren't road legal), and got pulled over for a loud exhaust. I didn't get a ticket, BUT, the officer did say its a criminal offense and I would have to go to criminal court to fight it. That's just to show you how serious it is here in NYC.

As others have mentioned, bring in all relevant paperwork to prove your case. That's pretty much all you can do. The judge might even laugh at the cop if it gets dismissed. That happened to me with a bogus equipment ticket I got previously. The cop was embarrassed because the judge said he wasted the court's time. I think that was worth it all.

Happens in Miami all the time..
Cops get training to spot open exhausts, mods, stolen engines, etc

and they start pointing the finger + tickets at anything that doesnt look stock.

I got the Agency Power single and my friends can say they hear me coming WAY before I show up. and when I'm accelerating they can hear me from about a mile away.

When ever I see a cop I stick it in neutral and coast by him so it's not to loud. I've been ticket free so far..

Yeah, I'd love to see a judge do that. It would make the whole thing worth it for sure.

That's what I've been doing ever since. There's several districts and jurisdictions of police in my area so I see them every time I'm in my car.. clutch goes in as I pass.

I live in california also and i decided to look it up one day cause i kept hearing about so many people getting tickets and there is 2 parts to that law the first part that cops tell people and the 2 part they dont tell people. The first part of the laws say that you can not modify your exhaust to be louder than the stock exhaust but then in the next sentence it say it has to comply with another law that it is under 6000 lbs (Im pretty sure all our cars are under 6,000lbs) and no louder than 95db
here is the exact link for ya: http://www.bobsmuffler.com/noise.htm My suggestion is to get the sounds levels done and just carry a sheet in the glove box so when you get pulled over you show it the wonderful officer and make the biggest smile possible

Not to turn attention away from the main point, (because it is in fact a BS ticket) but have you guys noticed the way the police have been getting progressively more outrageous with trying to hide? I mean in my area they park chargers on hills, freeway off ramp islands pointed the opposite direction. It just seems to me, that they are getting more bizzare with each passing year. I have seen them hiding behind buildings at night, all lights off like freak'n ninjas! Is there a line, or some kind of law that keeps them from going as far as dressing the car up in a tree costume, and pouncing on ppl like the freak'n Merry men from Sherwood forest?

You'll get away with it for now but put some test pipes and a new y pipe on with the AP and you'll end up with a $400 ticket like I did.

Would love to hear how this turned out as well.

Been to court a couple of times when I knew I was not in the wrong and even when I did speed and knew it. If you are honest, polite and present intelligent facts - the judge 95% of the time will let you go with a warning. It amazes me to see the dumb people who go in there ready to start a verbal fight and the judge makes sure they get maximum fines. They know who are the scum bags and who are the honest folks. Also, don't blame the police too much, they are just doing their jobs and they all have quotas to show they presented tickets each month. Again, even if you are pulled over, be polite fast in getting registration information and NEVER argue to a policeman - save that for court. I have been pulled over twice this year alone and more when I had my Mustang in the past. I almost always just got a warning since I thanked them for doing their work and was polite. Yeah - I know you want to get angry - but trust me it's the wrong time to do that.

Getting back to your ticket - you complied with the law, prove it and show the judge the officer was mistaken and thank the court for the officer doing his duty although he made an error in this case.

He told me my exhaust was illegal and that any 'tampering' with a car's exhaust is illegal. I live in the state of Georgia.

The Georgia code regarding exhaust is listed below. It doesn't specifically say anything about aftermarket exhaust, it basically just states that you have to have an exhaust in good working and cosmetic condition.. although it does say manufacturers, etc. should not sell aftermarket exhausts, but nothing about personal use is stated.
Has anyone else had this problem, or even better, has anyone else from Georgia? In you guy's opinions, is it even worth fighting? If the ticket is a $50 ticket I'm probably not even going to worry about it, but the cop had no clue as to how much it would be.

I'm running a greddy RS cat-back exhaust, dual mufflers. Greddy claims all their 'street legal' products are 50 state legal. Should that weigh into the factors?

He was a younger guy, seemed like he was displaying a little Z envy.

Thanks.

(2) The use of flexible pipe shall be prohibited except on diesel tractors or according to manufacturers´ original specifications;

(4) The exhaust system and its elements shall be securely fastened, including the consideration of missing or broken hangers; and

(5) There shall be no part of the exhaust system passing through the passenger compartment or any exposed stack so located that any individual entering or leaving the vehicle may be burned.

(b) The engine and power mechanism of every motor vehicle shall be so equipped and adjusted as to prevent the escape of excessive fumes or smoke.

(c) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or offer for sale any muffler which causes excessive or unusual noise or annoying smoke or any muffler cutout, bypass, or similar device for use on a motor vehicle or for any person to use, to sell, or to offer for sale any motor vehicle equipped with any such muffler, muffler cutout, bypass, or similar device. Any person violating this subsection shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
By the information you posted, and if it is correct. You should not worry. I've gotten pulled over dozens of times in CA, and I think CA might have the most strict rules for exhausts, of all the States; well anyway, I have an HKS Hi-Power and it is loud when stepped on, but I knew it was under 95 or w/e dBs, and I had gotten pulled over with it. I told the cop it was legal, but he just said I don't care and you can either have a fix it ticket, or a referee ticket. I opt'd for the ref ticket because I didn't want to go through with the hassles of this again. However, he then proceeded and asked to pop my hood, but that's a different story. So I went to a CA State Ref Station and had the car tested. They do a visual of your engine bay, underneath, and then do a dB and smog test. It all passed with flying colors. Now I carry around the Ref Certificate with all my information regarding that situation and each time I get pulled over, I get a sly eye and go okay, then get hassled for something else

You should have no worries, especially if your state has no laws against modifying an exhaust.

In light on your situation, main reason why aftermarket, race only exhausts are illegal is because of emissions. If the exhaust is completely legal and passes emissions, than I don't see the point of the citation.

miLes, I hope you're wrong! I did not know this!
