Default Closet Obesity???

What's with this...

My door sticker says my car weighs 3815lbs!? Isn't the weight range supposed to top out at 3300? I have an '03 Base model...where is all this extra weight coming from?

When they weighed your car they added your mom's weight in for when she's a passenger.

I wanna hear the answer on this one.... I mean, this is the Base Model... what does it say for the other, more luxurious models?

Taken from Edmunds...

Exterior
Length: 169.6 in. Width: 71.5 in.
Height: 51.9 in. Wheel Base: 104.3 in.
Curb Weight: 3188 lbs. Gross Weight: 3815 lbs.
Interior
Front Head Room: 38.2 in. Front Hip Room: 53.9 in.
Front Shoulder Room: 53.6 in. Front Leg Room: 42.6 in.
Luggage Capacity: 6.8 cu. ft. Maximum Cargo Capacity: 7 cu. ft.
Maximum Seating: 2

Ok...now my question is what is the difference between curb and gross weight?

That's the maximum weight of the car with a full load, I do believe (including your 500 lb mom j/k).

There is your curb weight... Gross weight = curb weight + ~650 or so which is the max we can put in the car.

That info is generally not on passenger cars. If you want to know th weight you'll have to get it weighed. (Some landfills have scales that can weigh a car since they charge by the pound and have to weigh vehicles before and after they dump.)

I'll try that...there are some scales not too far from here. I'm just glad to know that my car doesn't weight 3815lbs!

For those interested I have put a stock Track Pack on the scales. Nissans quoted weight is correct. With a full tank I was just over 3200lbs. The 53/47 front to rear weight distribution is accurate.

What some of you may not know is the left to right weight distribution. Most Japanese cars are built up on left side more, so that when a driver sits on the right it usualy balances quite well, however, when you sit the driver on the left you usualy get some imbalance. You'll be happy to know that there is only 1% difference left to right. Even after I climb into the car left right distribution still stays 1% barely and front to rear changes to 52/48. That means passengers sit towards the center and minimize weight transfer. I still think she's a bit of a porker but at least it keeps the weight in all the right places.

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is the total weight the vehicle has been designed to carry. It includes the vehicle (and all the mods you put on it), you, your passenger, all your goodies, and your fuel.
It's real meaning comes into play on cargo-carrying vehicles. Don't sweat it. Leave your Mom at home and stay away from Popeye's.
