Z revlimiter question
My Z (when I had it) had the revlimiter set at 6600. I was discussing revlimiters with an auto Z friend of mine, who states that his cuts off around 6900. I took my car to the drag strip enough times to know that the limiter was at 6600 for my 6MT Z. My g35 has the same fuel cutoff (6900) as the auto Z. I'm just wondering if other Z's had the same cutoff as I did (6600).
jedoublery - i am aware of that. I was referring to the fuel cutoff. sorry.
To rephrase - The Z cuts off at 6600. The G cuts off at 6900. My friend with a 5AT Z claims he cuts off at 6900 too. I drove my coworkers touring 6mt and his cut off at 6600 too. Any Z's that can shift well past redline?

heh this question gets asked alot actually; and always goes off track.
Ive yet to hear from an automatic owner that says their car in STOCK form(as in NO technosquare mod) shifts at 6900RPM. that would suprise me if it were true tho. but I always hear it as "my friend" or "this guy at the meet". maybe they are shifting at 6600 but just think they are at 6900?
not saying its not true; just havent heard it from an actual automatic owner.
perhaps an auto owner can clear it up for sure, my manual definitly cuts off at 6600 tho

for the record www.nissannews.com stats the G35coupe, G35sedan, and 350Z all at 6600 as maximum engine speed... no stipulations about the automatic being higher.
The friend that I am referring to is JonSilvZ, he is an active member on these forums. He claims that his fuel cutoff on his 5AT is at 6900. Maybe he can take notice and shed some light on this topic. My 04 G35 6MT also cuts off at 6850-6900 range... well into the redline. I can take a picture of my tach in that range if anyone is interested.

There have been a couple of ECU updates since the original issue. I am going in on Friday for "fix-it" day at dealer and will insist my ECU is updated. Got my Z 8/28/02. CVould this have something to do with it? Doubt it but maybe.
Ok the first time I hit very close to 7000. My eyes popped out. I knew the redline is 6600. Hitting 6900 only works in manual mode. Believe me Ive done this several times! Thats how I got 14 flat. Full auto mode shifts right before redline. Which gives me slower times(14.3 or so).
I'm still surprised the 6sp Zs dont go pass redline(6600)

not sure how much that could help as Ive heard some say better to shift before redline.
now the dyno curves do show a drop towards the top; but Im not sure the curve is shallower before then after(try to shift in the band with the most area under the curve).
itd be nice if the manuals went up to 6900 if for nothing else than some breathing room to shift.

Two things to comment on in regards to this statement...
I would want to rev into the redline just because when I DO shift, it will drop a bit higher into the sweetspot, as opposed to lower by shifting earlier. Also, even with the power drop up high, the car will still be pulling harder than the lower point after the shift.
With the addition of the crawford plenum, the top-end drop in power should be all but eliminated, and coupled with a higher redline, should make some some serious improvements in the quarter mile... most notably trap speeds by virtue of the higher redline. I'd be a little scared of running lean up top, but i figure the car runs rich enough as it is (both the Z and G), so it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
