No the amount they pay you is equivelant to what the car can be replaced for. You do not have to buy the car. You just get a check which would be enough to replace the car if you were purchasing from a dealer.

OP - let us know what they are going to give you for it - sure we are all curious. I don't have any illusions that my '03 with 116k would be worth what I would hope for. Then again, it would be enough for a nice down payment on a 370!

That can be fixed no doubt. If they total it i would try to buy it back... Some insurance agencies will give you the option to buy back at the salvageable value (which would be laughable) even after they cut you a check for whatever. You just have to ask.
My friend had a damage just a little worse than you, his insurance fixed it, but it cost a lot of money. This was 2 years ago, just recently he started to driving it. It depends on your insurance, I'd say most will total it.
