Default Anybody know of a headrest extension?

I find myself wanting to rest my head back onto the headrest while driving, only the headrest is waaay back there! Seems like I saw a headrest extension advertised some time ago--one that would simply strap onto the existing one in order to extend it forward a few inches. Hopefully, one could order it in a variety of leather colors.

Since the Z's headrest doesn't tilt forward, this would seem to be the only solution, short of strapping a throw pillow to it!!

Thanks in advance...

I've never heard of anyone using their headrest to lay their head on. Ever. Seems like it would impare driving a bit, I mean, when you stand up or sit down all through out the day, your head never rests. The only time you don't rest your head is when you go to sleep.

Default Headrest Extension

I hope that I am interpreting your question correctly, in my answer.

I got these headrest/neck pads from ebay, along with seatbelt pads. (see photo)

Search ebay, under neck pad or rest. Some are plain, some with Nissan or Nismo like mine. Around $25.00 for a set of two pads, and seatbelt pads for about $20.00 for 4.

Hope this helps.

Cliff,
I like what you've done with those pads; I'll explore them on Ebay.
However, what I'm specifically hoping to find is a device/pad that slips over the headrest to make it, in essence, thicker, so it "comes forward" a bit. When I drive long distances, it would be nice to be able to lay my head back a bit and rest it, but the stock headrest is so far back there it would mean tilting my head back into an unsafe (and uncomfortable) angle. I hope this makes sense. I know I've seen these things before, but maybe it was years ago.....

Greg, did you see my post? Just curious. Rest your head and you'll fall asleep. There's a reason they don't make them for resting your head. It's more for safety to keep your head from snapping to far back in a accident.

You want to get these!
You can take the headrest pad in the above picture and move it up to the middle of the headrest. I originally had it where he has it and it did not help with comfort, but I moved it up and now my head rests straight against the pad.
I also like to rest my head against the headrest while driving and saw those pads at a car show. The ran $12.00 for the headrests and $19 for the seatbelt pad.

They are not easy to find. Good luck.

Agree ! Driving is driving... and pillows are for sleeping. This is a first for driving.

How about this... ?? Pillow neck brace ... usually used by passengers.....

As I said, they are not easy to find. My headrest pads we found at the bottom of a box of clearance items at a car show. I had to dig, but found a gem.
Skip the U pillow. Your not Martha Stewart...

I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I find anyting.

Default Headrest

Thanks for the compliments.

I agree that you can move the pad up higher on the headrest and it will give some more support. As it is they don't give a lot of support and are primarily cosmetic.

I once contacted the guy who was selling them on ebay about a double size pad. with only one logo which seems to me to be exactly what you need. He didnt make them just imported them from china.

If you could find some with no logos, and sew them togther at the bottow to prevent independent movement, would probably be you best bet. Two logos per headrest might be a bit much.

Also you might buy a set with which to get measurements for a template, then custom make one. or get someone like the ZComfortRest.com to make you one. I have a great leather console pad that is awesome. He does some great leather work.

I dont know if any of these ideas help.

BrickydZ,
I just looked for "www.zcomfortrest.com" and it didn't show. Is that the correct URL? I'd like to see that site.....

Talking Just wear a helmet everywear, that will give you 2 inches.

Seriously though in my wifes Passat her headrests kind of roll forward to give the extra support. I'm almost concidering removing the headrest and putting the posts in a vice and forcing a slight bend in the bars. I'll try and find out how much replacements are first before I butcher mine.
