I have never told them about any mod that I have done to any car that I have owned. But, be aware that if you wreck the car and they total it, they own it, mods and all.

Here in Van, they'll insure you up to $5000 for aftermarket parts, $1000 for stereos, if you want to raise the limit, then you'll have to let them know about your mods, then you have to pay a certain percentage of the total value of your mods...
at least this is what I was told before

my ex got screwed when he totalled his 95 civic ex. he had dumped prolly 7k into a swapped b16a2 (si engine) that had an insane amount of work done. when the car got totalled, they refused to pay for any of it and told him that b/c it wasn't original parts, they were gonna pay him less b/c it affected market value.

now, i do know anything they don't pay for, they do not own. sooo if, god forbid, you get in a wreck and total the car and your ins won't pay for the mods, you have the right to take and keep the mods off the car. you have to replace it with orig. equip. so time and effort becomes an issue. but yes, if they don't pay for the mods in the event of a total loss, they do not own them. you can keep them.
