Default Tranny whine - "Conspiracy Theory" Stay tuned

Can tranny whine really be a mis-aligned wheel or the new brembos?

What i thought was tranny whine may be a noise coming from my rear right wheel area. It makes noises when the car is in motion, regardless of any gear selection or even neutral. But completely goes away when the car is at rest.

I have also seen many msg boards regarding "whine" noises caused by either a misaligned wheel or new brembo brakes.

This is my 1st time with manual transimssion and this is nissan's 1st time with brembos. I will be going to my service center tomorrow to get it checked out.

Does anyone WITHOUT brembos have tranny whine?

Default johnson...have you checked it out with your svc center?

I will post what happens tomorrow on this board.

I don't know what tranny whine sounds like cuz this is my 1st manual tranny. But the sound my car makes can be heard from other cars. my friend drove beside me and said he can hear it and at times was loud! Can tranny whine be heard from passengers in other cars? But again, i dont think i have tranny whine. just my lack of knowledge with that made me assume i do.

So it has really taken some fun out of the 287 wonderful horses.

I hope the nissan tech at the svc center doesnt refer to a manual or something. I would think this is a common trouble shoot on most sports car makes.

Default As for rolling joyride i am not leaving it overnight

I will be there the whole time tomorrow. And
second, what does Throw-out bearing noise sound like?

and when does this occur? for example when stopped at a red light and in neutral? i have 400 miles on it right now and i dont get any problems in the Z other than this ANNOYING sound/whine!

Grrrrrr. it was almost hysterical. I was driving my new sports car down main street and a gypsy cab, a 1980 cadillac passes me and his car was making the same noise! Maybe it was a 350Z in disguise :/

if it were a throwout bearing, i think it would have to make more noise as soon as you step on the clutch and exert pressure on the thing.

I think I've got that noise too. I noticed when I pulled into the garage the other night with the windows down and all systems (AC, stereo) off. As I rolled in and let off the clutch after slipping it into neutral, it made a sound as if you took a coffee can, filled it half-way with water, threw in some coins and sloshed them around.

Does that description sound accurate?

What, are you like some throwout bearing expert or something?

Jeez, you act as if you just had a throwout bearing issue on, say, a 280Z or something.

P.S. Hang out with any hot chicks at downtown nightclubs lately??

I kind of like the whine. IT adds to the exhaust note and makes the car sound like an exotic...

If the sound is a normal by-product of the way the gears are cut I'm fine with it. It will be reminiscent of cars like the original Jaguar E type.

I wonder if Nissan did give the gears less of a Helica cut to help out on HP. I want this car to go fast! If the tranny makes noise due to design and the drive shaft and half safts all whinne to free up HP, then I feel Nissan did their job right in building me a sports car.

OOOOOoooor......maybe its the person that matters. Maybe there is a noise there, and it only bothers certain people ya know.

When I got my 280 back from the shop...deja vu...I thought I heard all kinds of funny tranny noises. Why does it whine so much, why is there this sound when I let the clutch out? I swear I hear these things, but am slowly thinking that maybe these sounds were always there, but since I dropped $700 to get work done, I guess I expect the car to run like a mercedes.
WHATEVER the case, there is whine and grumble in my 5sp....maybe it IS sports cuts or something. Alright...enough devils advocate

ps. hot chicks? Gosh...its so hard to me!
