Default A Diet

Greetings all,

I want to put my roadster on a diet. I want to trim as much weight as I can without breaking the bank.

What are some good options for weight savings? I'm stock right now.

The roadster is quite the bloated behemoth. If I could trim 100-200 lbs off I would be happy. Am I dreaming?

PS. Driver plans to loose 20 lbs. before summer.

remove floor mats
lightweight battery
i would guess in ATL ud want to keep A/C
any sound deadening
stereo
trunk mat
spare tire
jack
any crap you have in your car

any of the above you remove will affect the daily driving experience... sure you will go a tad faster, but is it worth all the extra noise, discomfort, and possible 3hour wait on AAA if you get a flat? to me it isn't, so I got dynamat... quiet as a caddy, with the right tires

Before anyone makes any more recommendations, we should probably ask this question:

Why?

do you have leather seats? getting a pair of racing seats would save you some weight.

Amuse is coming out whith a whole lot of Carbon-fibre bodyparts. Their aim is to loose around 400lb from the coupe and I'm sure that a lot of these parts will fit onto the Roadster.

Though, these parts will pretty much 'break the bank' ... it'll be probably cheaper to trade the Roadster for a Boxster S.

depends on what you consider breaking the bank, but a set of lighter wheels and an exhaust could shave some considerable pounds as well as increase performance some. dont know if you could do this but if your autoXing can you remove the passenger seat for the time being or no?

I have about 5 or 6k to spend. I havn't done any autocrossing before; I'll have to look up what can be done to the car in each class. A friend has turned me on to autocross, looks pretty cool.

I looked around the forum a bit. Seems like a lighter flywheel and clutch, pulleys, lighter exhaust, lighter rims (I like the Nismo wheels) would be a good place to start. I'm going to get the Nismo S tune swaybars also.

Here's what I've roughly gathered for weight savings without effecting drivablility too much:

Ti exhaust (-40) - although pricey
Ti Y pipe (-?) - probably too $$ for little HP
Track wheels (-30) - Looks good to
Tires, ie: Toyo TS-1 (-16) - Next time you switch tires
Cats (-10) - Add HP to, although might be loud with a Ti exhaust
Battery (-15) - Cheap works well
JWT flywheel (-15) - freed HP and increased responsiveness
Spare tire and jack + sealant can (-25?)
Pulley (-5) - basically same benefits as flywheel

There are probably other savings such as Pop charger compared to factory airbox, and stainless headers vs OEM. Hollow Hotchkis sway bars might save a bit over the OEM solid units. I also think I read that a plastic pelnum could save a chunk over the OEM and get HP gains.

Is this for real?

Your gonna do all this to a brand new roadster for what?

This is ridiculous, sorry.

I'm not going to personally do it. They were just suggestions as to where weight could be saved. If I were to do it though, IMO, the wheel and tire savings would be the most benficial for my Brickyard.

My roadster is nothing more than a toy. It's the hole I plan to throw money into. Thanks for the input FritzMan.
