That's cool man, we all start somewhere.

Power Shifting - Shifting very fast without taking your foot off the accelerator. (Very bad for Engine/Tranny) This is for straight line shootouts, but don't over use it.

Slipping the Clutch - Just as it says you slip or pop the clutch pedal as opposed to easing it off, causes a jolt (Not good for Tranny).

Launching - When you start out in first gear.

Heel/Toe Shifting - Primarily used in downshifting when comming up on a corner or anytime you need to slow down and downshift at the same time. You apply the brakes with the ball of your foot while hitting the gas pedal to match the RPM of the lower gear. This one's a little more complicated to explain.

Slipping and Popping are two completely different things

Popping the clutch, a rapid release of the clutch, would cause the jolt you talked about

Slipping the clutch, is more like the easing out of the clutch pedal you talked about, but is to a greater extent.

As far as the shifting goes, there more to it also. There are 4 basic shifts

1. Reg. everyday shift clutch-gear-release: Little throttle variation

2. Double clutching (For people with entirely too much time and love for their clutch/tranny) Double clutching is as follows. when your ready to shift your press the clutch in, put the gearbox in neutral, then let the clutch out. After FULLY releasing the clutch you then press the clutch again, select the desired gear, match RPM's with throttle, then let the clutch out again. This is the best way to treat a transmission, but is a complete waste of time, especially with modern trannies and their fancy sychros

3. Speed-shift: LIKE NissaNZ said, FULL throttle, fastest stickshift action you can do, and VERY LITTLE CLUTCH. In most cases during a speed-shift you never fully disengage the clutch, you just kinda stab at with your foot as fast as you can.

4. Power-shift: Very similar to speed-shift, with one slight change.
This type of shift is FULL throttle, but with a slight pause before releasing the clutch. The PURPOSE of a power-shift is generally just to get your tire to spin. Dont get me wrong, a proper speed-shift will chirp your tires, but a power-shift will SPIN your tires

The reason for the increased tire spin is the pause before you let the clutch out. ITS NOT A LONG TIME, but long enough. You FULLY release the clutch, pause for a tenth of a sec. or so then pop the clutch. BY fully releasing then popping you get the most grab out of the clutch , and the pause drops your RPM's back more into your torque band. It does drop much, but just enough to get the little extra torque to fry the tires off

OH yeah launching........That depends on the car. There are A LOT fo factors to consider when launching a car to acheive the fastest acceleration.
cause and effect time

1 .Vehicles torque rating. The higher the torque the lower the RPM's you launch. Usually a little clutch slippage is neccesary to plant the tires Example Viper:1500-1800 rpm launch, S2000 4500-5000 rpm launch

2. Quality of tires, the higher the quality, the higher RPM's you ca launch

3. Clutch. The more clamping force the clutch has the higher RPM's you can launch at (IF YOU HAVE THE TRACTION) Example -WRX all wheel drive, the car has the traction to let you launch at 7000 RPM's but the stock clutch refuses to cooperate with that much power, but that leads you tro your next proplem area

DRIVETRAIN STRENGTH: YOU can throw on some slicks and buy a crazy clutch for an S2000 or WRX, but all you would do is destroy tranny

Now with all that said (THERE IS MORE TO IT THAN THAT) the Z should be a decent car to launch, BUT WILL THE Z's TRANNY HOLD UP????? I know Raceboy tried some G-tech runs, but he had very bad wheel hop. His problem sounded like a combination of tires and suspension. Higher grip tires, and a LITTLE softer suspension in the back (FOR WEIGHT TRANSFER) and I think the Zcould hit 13.5's in the quarter no problem

Wiley,

So in speedshifting you don't release the gas pedal when pushing in the clutch, right?
