Keep or sell/trade the 350...
Keep 350z, watch your money grow. If your car needs a lot of fixing then you probaly better off getting a new car. One of the best thing happen to me was keeping my Z car for 8 years and having a very reliable beater. I've had 0 car payments for 5 years, now I can practically buy a lot of things. 8 years of ownership of Z, 0 problems with the car. More money = more freedom.
Test drive one, I was in the same boat until I test drove one. It felt a lot lighter and a MUCH nicer interior but I could not get over the clutch issue, very light clutch and it was getting stuck to the floor when I was shifting quickly.
16 years and yup.
Keep the Z, have fun with it, eventually buy another car. O-2 you should be able to easily invest $400 monthly, start now, start as soon as possible. Officers are usually better with money, you will find that only 75% of your peers live paycheck to paycheck with little to nothing saved, while my peers I'm of the 1% that doesn't live deep in the hole.

Ending with a quote that you may hear often in the future "pay yourself first"
Really? I could pay off my Jeep, Juke and house. But why, my interest rates are less than my ROA. Having the extra money vs a payed off asset make me more money. When it gets payed off, it gets payed off.
Thanks for dropping some wisdom on me, I really appreciate it. I've already got some appointments set up to get my portfolio going as well as getting an auto-deduct IRA account set up. I'm an O-2 right now, but been trying to knock a solid chunk of debt away from some school loans/car payments. I plan to snowball the money I was putting towards the car payment towards the last bit of debt I have. Now that I've pretty much been able to do that, I wanted to make sure the wiser thing to do was keep the car I have and keep it maintained. I really am proud of her to be honest...I was going to hate having to sell it, but looks like I'll be holding onto her until I'm forced to buy a daily!

I'm estimating 3 year depreciation on your 350z is $3,000. 3 year depreciation on the 370z could be around $12,000. I wanted a 370z Nismo also but can't wrap my head around the cost after my 350z has been paid off.

Thanks for the solid advice everyone. I was really on the fence and the reassurance of hanging onto my 350 is much appreciated. It's certainly hardly given me any major problems outside of this transmission deal.
The transmission being messed up isnt really that bad if you think about it.
Rebuilding it or getting a used one is nowhere near as expensive or PITA as a new car + payments + you wanting to mod said new car. I would keep it if I were you.

A new trans from nissan will cost about $1700 , a couple beers and 6 hours you can install it with a friend

That's awesome if they are!
I had a money pit '99 3000GT VR4 that needed a new transmission. 7k installed from the dealer, and it was a "rebuilt transmission". What a rip. Fortunately it was covered by an extended warranty I had. I sold the car as soon as the warranty expired.
^^ whoa thats definite a rip off lol glad you have a z. you can probably get a race built transmission for the Z for a lil bit extra more over 1700, just shop around it will still be way cheaper than buying another car.
yeah the 3000GT VR4 was a bit too ahead of it's time with the AWD, turbo, etc.
apparently not even alot of mitsubishi mechanics were qualified to work on them. I ended up having mine serviced at a chrysler/dodge dealership owned by the same people that owned the mitsubishi dealer, because dodge had a "master mechanic" that was trained and experienced working on Dodge Stealth's (same car as 3000 GT)
My warranty paid for about 12k worth of repairs in a 3 year period.

Are they really that cheap?

and like terrasmak said a 6 pack, a friend, and 6 hours later you are on the road.
Yeah man I've actually thought about just driving it until the whole gear goes out, but I do enjoy being able to go to the occasional track day and spirited street driving without mechanical problems. I actually just emailed Z1 the other day about a price quote for everything and it's actually not too bad of a price. I would do it myself, but after this deployment I'm wanting to get it handled before I take leave once I'm home. I plan to drive to Z1 and do the CD009, JWT Clutch/Flywheel, and a SS clutch line and fresh bleed on my way to TN.

Damn that IS a deal. Just a bit more than a nice exhaust system for a brand new OEM transmission!
the price definitely is great! Considering it's brand new it'll last the remainder of the life of the car I'd say
