Extended Warranty
I don't think there could ever be too much insurance. Yeah you do get a 3 yr/36k bumper to bumper but things do go wrong after 36k miles. I think the extended warranty is a good idea because it is a first year production car. You never know what might go wrong. I just like to be covered for as long as I have payments on the car. I don't want to shell out a lot of cash for somehting and then have to pay a big car payment on top of it.
We decided to think about it. According to the dealer, Nissan gives you 1 year or 12,000 miles (I think those were the numbers) without increasing the extended warranty price. Therefore, I have that amount of time/miles to think about "if" or "what" I want.
Good to know when I need to get the extended warranty. FYI though. I have a 99Civic and 6/100k warranty. Honda said you have until 3/36 to buy it and I did. Now I have an intermittent airconditioning problem and they want to charge me if they can't see the problem. So warranties are good only if they are usable.
Dec. Delivery for my Z so I will keep my eyes peeled for input.

I was told that warranties are really a commodity like paint-protection, etc. that the dealer just resells to you. How does it work, its almost like insurance. Dealer cost is like $1100...they sell it to you for $1800 and make $700; the only difference is.
Cut the middle man and go direct; I was informed of this today.
Direct you get the same warranty and even better, because if you get it near the end of your 3/36..the 5year or 7year starts at that point..not when the car entered service!!!
The way it works is simple, you take the car to any service place (not necessearliy a Nissan if you do not want to) and they pay the shop directly (yes; you heard right..you do NOT have to pay and get reimbursed).
I like the flexibility of picking my shop; although I wouldn't want to do this...if there is something that may not necessarily be under waranty, the costs can be subsumed within a repair of something that was under warranty -- but you would have to work that out with the mechanic.
This is the place I was recommended from a former 94 Z owner who now is in Afghanistan handling other business for us. He had his tranny fixed this way after it blew.

Also an extended warranty usually confuses the consumer into thinking everything is covered....when in fact not much is covered.
This is a true story!!!
purchases used car (relatively new but just out of manufacturer warranty; but did purchase extended warranty for the car).
6 months later, Engine block is leaking oil - 1 quart a month...on the back side. Takes it in for warranty repair...and is told it is not covered.
Warranty states "all mechanical engine parts are covered; the gasket leak is not a mechanical engine part". So in effect, a piston has to break and bust to get the warranty done...in which case at that poitn they'll of course have to put in a new gasket...out of poket, $400 for the poor person who couldn't even afford that month's rent. 100% true story...
