Question How Long After Your VIN?

So can anyone tell me how long after they received their VIN that their car was actually delivered? I finally got a call from my dealer last night with my VIN but he said it still looks like the first or second week in October.

I guess I shouldn't ***** but it's been a long wait..I'm hoping they are estimating on the long side

Why doesn't my dealer call me with my VIN? Why doesn't he like me?

I always feel like such a whiny baby when I post stuff like this, but it still bothers me that so many other dealers actually call their customers. Mine has posted info on this board, even replied to a thread I started about never seeing one in San Diego and said I should contact him, that they are going to have some Z show at the dealership in a couple of weeks. He didn't say "hey Dave, give me a call, we've got this event coming up, thought you might be interested." No, was just "my name's so-and-so, give me a call".

Anyway, I've been given a 10/7 ETA for my car by a contact at NNA, but have not been notified of my VIN. Sounds like others with similar ETAs have been given a VIN, so I have to assume I have one too. Guess it wouldn't hurt to call my guy up and see what's going on.

Whining over, back to happy thoughts.

gibbsy1-

I had to find someone at the dealer to buddy up to. Once I found that contact, they have kept me in the loop pretty well. He just called me today and told me my car is at the port and they expect a delivery of 10/3. If your car is expected to be delivered 10/7, then your VIN is definitely in the system, based on what we have been told about the process in the past.

Cool

As frustrating as the waiting has become, my dealer at least calls when there is something new to report. For that I am grateful considering the horror stories I've heard about other dealers

That must be nice. I just called my salesman, he said he would have to check with the manager to see if there was any new info on my order and asked if I could call him back. Could I call HIM back? What the hell is that? How about you call me when you get the info? Better yet, how about you get the manager right now while I'm on the phone? This is the same guy that three weeks ago told me that he had some info on my order (I called him to ask if there were any on the lot as I hadn't seen one yet) and would give me a call because he was in the middle of a meeting. My call to him today was the first contact with him since then.

At this point, there will be no pictures or handshaking or any other revelry when I pick up my car. I want to sign and get the hell out of there. I certainly don't mind the wait anymore, but this crappy treatment is killing me.

Hey Pat,

I got my VIN on 8/20, car showed up on nissandriven.com on 9/1 and delivered on 9/2. I'm not sure how long my VIN was floating around out there before I got it, since I called my dealer rather than him calling me.

Hang in there Pat, it's worth the wait. At least you don't have to worry about getting as much driving in as possible before the snow starts falling.

Are you still coming out to Chicago in December? Maybe I'll have to plan another Z get together while you're in town.

I got my VIN# on 8/1/02 and got my car on 9/6/02 so it was about 5 weeks.

Sorry ZGirl but I like Frank's answer better

Waiting two weeks is always better than 5

Here I go whining again

Just called my salesguy back. Told me he got busy, hadn't had a chance to talk to the manager. Says he is just finishing up with the service guy, he'll talk to the manager then and call me back, it'll be about five minutes.

In less than five minutes, he calls back. No new info on my order. Now, I have spoken with a nice young lady from NNA (or I guess the regional office, not the customer service dept) who told me over a week ago that my Z had been built and my ETA was 10/7. She didn't have a VIN though.

So, did my salesguy actually talk to the manager and try to look for some new info, or did he just look in my file and see nothing added? I know, I know, tell him about the report number RU**** or whatever. But, I shouldn't have to. They've delivered at least a half-dozen Zs, they should know the procedure by now.

Oh well, it's Friday and it's quittin' time, so I'll just have to drown my sorrows in a beer or ten.

Pat,

Eight days ago, NNA e-mailed me, no VIN, but an ETA of 10/31.

Today, an e-mail with my VIN and a new ETA of 10/14. I called the dealer with this info. He told me he was just going to call me with the VIN, and that he thought the car would be in before the 14th. (But who knows???)

All we can do is hope.

Pat, If you didn't like Zgirl's response, you really won't like this. I got my VIN on 8/6/02 and STILL no car!

You are in Cali though. Everything seems to move a lot faster there then here in the east.

Pat,

My salesman had previously told me that I had an August build month and that expected delivery had been adjusted from September to October.

I had been very patient in August and was hoping to get a call from my salesman to give me an update. I instead called him on 8/26 and found out he was on vacation.

I called NNA on the 28th. At first the young lady to whom I was talking would not give me any information other than I should talk to my salesman. I told her very calmly and in a friendly manner that I'd been waiting for months for information and gave her my order particulars. She said she would see what she could come up with.

She came back with my VIN and an early October expected delivery date.

Two days later my salesman returned from vacation, gave me a call and confirmed all the information.

Today my salesman called and said the other car they were expecting for early October showed up at their lot. He added that that car, along with my Z, showed up on a report 2 days ago showing they were both "INP" (being processed).

I hope to get mine next week.

Gibbsy1 - in just a few short weeks none of this will matter much if we have our cars but I still think we need one thread for kudos to the dealers that treated us well and another thread with stories of dealers that didn't take care of their customers properly. I think NNA would be interested in these..sort of an online customer satisfaction report..I've mentioned this to Jay

Shoalhaven - how the hell did you get NNA to e-mail you? - good job

RainmanZ - I know it's worth the wait..I never should have done that test drive

Zbart - best of luck for a next week delivery

Doc - WHERE THE HELL IS YOUR CAR

Cool How Long??

Pat,

I sent a fax to the 714 area code # on my order form. I then received an e-mail from another gentleman, followed later by a second e-mail with the good news.

There are nice guys at NNA after all.

If you need additional info, PM me.

I got my VIN almost 3 weeks ago, and hopefully it'll be here over the next few days.

Hasn't shown up on Nissandriven yet, but that's not as good an indicator as I thought. Apparently, the lead time is variable.

When the heck is Scaf going to get his car? A lot of the "Old Guard" are still waiting.
