How much is the seller wanting for the Z?

 

then why buy it for less than a year of driving?
dont buy it
its going to end up costing you a handfull

 

I can't really imagine too much going wrong in a year but.. The resale value will drop for every mile you put on it. How much are they askin? 4k? Go for it. 10k? Stay away from it.

Try and get them to drop it to 6K. Also be sure to do a thorough inspection before you purchase. If you're lucky You may even be able to turn around and sell it for about the same you paid next year.

personally I would do the inspection myself and bring one of my gear head friends to look it over with me. If you don't have that kind of resource available, a nissan dealership would be a good 2nd option.

Is the car manual? if so this will be one of the most important things to pay attention to during inspection. Ask owner if significant work has been done (replaced clutch etc.)

Also try to judge the previous owner. Is it a young guy who probably took it to tracks and beat the heck out of it regularly, or is it an older person who takes it on slow Sunday strolls and spends more time washing it than throttling it. Sometimes cars with high mileage are in better condition than cars with low mileage and lots of abuse.

 

Why bother if your only going to keep the car for about a year? I would just get a cheap bucket to roll around in. Seems like a waste of money to what you want to do.

I paid 7400 for my 03 350z with 140k miles on it. It needed about $500 in repairs, but had 3k in mods to it. I would look for something with lower miles

 

I paid less that 8K for my 03 with 70k miles on it. A few small fixes and that's all it needed. I know of another one here with 120k on it for about 4k but it has a salvage title. I wouldn't spend more than 5k on one with that many miles no matter the condition.

 

Exactly. Is this what this is about op? Are you just trying to look cool and impress people? If so, your buying the car for all the wrong reasons. If you wanna look cool rent a corvette or some mercedes for a few days and save your money.

 

Sold my Z with 207k for $5200 and the buyer was happy! Nothing was wrong with the car mechanically, just needed a respray on the hood and front bumper.

With 172k on the clock, I would definitely ask about/inspect the suspension. Shocks, bushings, etc. If they are still the original parts, they will more than likely need to be replaced. If the ride is rough, you could use that as a haggling point on the price since you would need to pay to replace those parts yourself. Any grinding of the gears? How does she idle? Tires feathered on the inside?

Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to look good for a year, a month or a day but I would try to get the price down $1-2k.

OP what your not getting is everyone here is giving you advice on keeping you Z past one year. Your talking about buying this car to drive around for a year than flip it. Listen to the above three posts, we are trying to save you money. Dont make a dumb **** decision because your trying to get *****. ***** will get into whatever car you have they dont give a shiit, they wont walk into any randon *** house though.

^^^This. In college I had a pos 95 camry and rolled up to college parties and clubs. Didn't affect me. Anyways, you don't want a chick that is interested in you because of the flashy gadgets and amount of money you have. This is why when I got my Z and my M3 I would still roll up on dates with the same 95 camry with the rust on the sides and I never got any weird looks from anyone. I got my Z for the love of the car and not to impress anyone. If you are going to get it get it for you, not to please others.
