Nissan has won top honours at the 19th International Automobile Festival in France.
The festival jury has attributed the 'Palme d'Or' to Carlos Ghosn of Nissan's Motor for being 'The man of the year in the International Automobile Industry'.
The results given by the French TV TF1 showed that the public elected the 'Nissan 350Z' as 'The most beautiful car of the year'.
The jury saluted the Nissan's spectacular recovery due to its alliance with Renault.
The 'Palme d'Or' is rarely attributed; it is only the fourth time in 19 editions that it will be attributed this year.
The jury had spontaneously and unanimously elected Carlos Ghosn by plebiscite as the 'Man of the year' because of his large reputation in the automobile industry.
The president of the jury Rémi Depoix declared that Ghosn's main criteria were: the strictness of work, the unlimited will of success and the remarkable results of a man with a vision in the automobile industry.
Carlos Ghosn said: 'I am very touched to see Nissan rewarded in France as much as I am touched to receive the prizes from such a particular jury composed of talented, excellent, creative, deeply intellectual, passionate and charming persons.
'Some of these values were the motives that gave us the boost to engage in Nissan's renewal and the 350Z is the best proof.'
Ghosn continued: 'I would like to thank Nissan's workgroups all over the world, in Japan, Europe and the US who doubled their efforts to offer the public a car combining both reason and meanings.'
Ghosn has then succeeded Michael Schumacher who was elected in 2003.
The 350Z who combines the genes of three Z generations has won the election in a very close final after 11 weeks of competition thanks to the vote of the public and to the jury members.
This award marks the coming back of the legendary Coupé Z with two seats, an excellent car with exceptional performances; it is the best sign Nissan's renewal.
The conception of the 350Z goes back to 2001. After the successful evaluation of the public reaction regarding a new car of the 'Z' series in the Detroit Engine Exhibition in January 2001, a team grouping together persons in charge of the new products department, engineers and designers began to work hand in hand to give the shape of Nissan's 350Z project.
The results came as expected: an original and modern high-tech shape that pays homage to the past with a certain number of elements in a skillful way.
The circular passenger compartment, the wide front and the tide back of the 350Z have the exact thematic of the first 240Z. It has also the same upward of the wing and abrupt line of the hatchback of the latest 300ZX.
In the inside of the car, we find the elements of style that remind us of Nissan's heritage, especially the trio of instruments gathered at the center of the dashboard... like the 240Z.
Finally, it is a spectacular car that won the election of the 'Most Beautiful Car Of The Year'. It has already seduced number of clients in Europe and in the US where the 350Z is the most sold sporty Coupé.
