Heres my recent thread, but no prices posted. I'm not a mechanic or anyone special so you get a real feel for the struggles and frustrations the average John Doe deals with.

If you go the way you say you are, you'll be in this $20k-$25k, like Syner mentioned. His number is pretty accurate. In my mind, why not take $20k-$25k and get a C6 Vette? You don't have to take my word for it, but I'm also one of the few who's already travelled down the road you're looking to go. Go 5.3L with a single turbo or go LQ4 or LQ9 with LS3 heads.

I understand some people like working on cars, but it seems like a lot of trouble/pain to go through if you're on a college budget.

OP you'll probably receive better feedback from the members here if you would
1. focus on actually getting the z in the first place
2. get the ls3 and swap parts
3. post about your progress and experience
instead of talking about "maybe" doing this or "maybe" swapping that like many other dreamer threads.

Also being a college student myself, I doubt you'll be able to have the time to actually perform such a swap let alone fund it.
Yup unless your a workaholic like me and work full time and go to school full time and make more than minimum wage.
Im just now getting my build together for top drift dude and its been 4 years. I'm 23. Oh and the VQ is a powerful motor... I will never go LS. Break the cookie cutter

alright so i got a valid question for everyone, and yes I'm thread jacking because OP is a dreamer. How much would be pay for a 04 clean title with a blown motor that has 120K on it. I'm feeling around 3K. Guy selling wants 4K. Im thinking 3K cash.

You know what, against my better judgement, I'm going to have to agree with this

Also, to the guy about the blown motor z the miles wouldn't really matter the important thing would be do all the other components need to be replaced, with a blown motor you won't even know if the trannys good, its a risk, but around 3k would be a good number but I personally wouldn't be interested with all the unknowns. If your doing all the work yourself it'd be worth the risk kinda, as you could pick up a used engine probably 30-50k mile range for around 3k or so maybe less and what, say 1500$ for a tranny then could turn around and make about a 3k+ profit on it, so long as nothing else goes bad... Wouldn't be too bad of an investment

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Around 2500-3k. I'm going to go with a vq short block and build from there. Low compression for boost for sure. I'll have a build thread for it when I do it waiting for a reply from the guy now
