Default If you use HOMELINK.... Read this

I have had my Z for longer than most (since Aug. 02) and I use the 2 of the Homelink buttons daily and the paint is coming off and all that is left is white buttons now....

So, the point.... I would put something over the buttons if you want to see them for long.

I was thinking clear fingernail polish.... I am sure other things would work great.

What do you have them hooked up to? I use the garage door opener but my car is garaged all winter so it gets a lot less use than yours I'm sure. I took delivery in Sept 02.

I am having the same problem as jran. took delivery in October 02 and have a little over 12,000 miles. I park in the garage so I probably hit the garage button 4 times a day. Practically all the paint has worn off. It really looks pretty crappy.

Use mine on a DAILY basis. Twice a day minimum, and have since day one... Coming up on 16mo of ownership.

One might recommend washing your hands.

Mine shows ZERO signs of wear.

I've had mine for about a year now and use it twice/day with no wear signs. Is this not covered under warranty? Is this considered "normal" wear N tear?

The dealer could probably order a couple of new buttons for you and hopefully it wouldn't be too expensive. If you ask them nice, maybe they'll cover it under warranty.....and maybe monkeys will fly out of my butt!

I know this was a joke, but I felt the need to respond (pretty funny if I wasn't the a$$ of your joke)....

I work in a cleanroom all day and 90% for the time when I press the buttons I am leaving for work in the morning after showering, or returning home from the cleanroom, in which case my hands are cleaner than 99.99% of others....

Bonz-- I use two buttons daily, my garage and gate to my apt. complex. So, they are used often. I would say I use the garage one 3-4 times a day and gate 1-2, except when I am on the road like now in Germany. Car has 16,000 miles.

I'm with Phoenix. 0 wear here and I use mine all the time. Honestly, are you trying to drive this car or keep a model of it? Car is meant to be used, not kept perfect

Good for you. the point of this topic was to make everyone aware of a problem that has been experienced by a few owners and ask for and offer solutions. The only way to know if this wear is abnormal is to ask fellow owners on a forum such as this. If you don't have any helpful thoughts or suggestions, don't comment. Nobody expects their car to be perfect and if it was this forum wouldn't be here. I don't have any issues with tire feathering, but I don't go over to that topic and tell them to quit whining.

I've had the same problem. Had mine since Aug '02 as well. The one button I use is halfway worn off, with white showing. Pretty crappy, but it doesn't bother me that much. Definitely normal I think. Good idea with the nail polish.

I would normally never respond this way, but your are a freakin idiot. The point of this Forum is to gain inforamtion from others, I was providing what I think is good information to a community of other Z owners.

If you want to know, I could care less, I think it is kind of cheap that the coating peals off, but it is not a big deal. Why even post something as imature as that, grow up. And, if you think I have ever reponded to someone like this, look back at my 500+ posts and you will see that I have, in most cases, tried to provide helpful information. I think Pheonix was trying to be a smarta$$ not a dumba$$ like yourself.

I think you should just let the white wear off. It will give your Z a more stealthy and modified appearance sort of like shaving the emblems.

It's not the white that is wearing off, it's the black that is chipping away.
