Default Vq35de oil consumption

Hey guys I need your help to minimize my oil consumption. It's a 03 g35 coupe with 130k on it. I really don't want to get. New engine right now so my only option is to minimize it. I live in NJ, hot cold weather I'm gonna start running something other than 5 30 to slow it down.

I'm a qt low per 1k miles ..... I'm gonna change the valve cover gaskets ,I know they are leaking. It's hard to see what else is leaking but where else should I look more what's known to leak on these engines? I don't ever see any smoke out of my exhaust system and I know about the bad piston rings...

Help me out as much as possible, where should I be looking after changing the gaskets and spark plug grommets

Does the rear of the car get dirtier faster than the rest of the car? (Burning)
Check around the engine and under to see any newer oil deposit for a possible leak, could be oil filter seal.
In any case I suggest you switch to Rotella T6 5/40, oil consumption will improve by a bit and it's safe to use in your climate.

Thanks for the reply, I have never noticed the car dirtiest in the back, tailpipes look fine .. 5/40 is ok? I meant to say in my post that I'll be switching to 10 40 not 5 40... that link says 177 dollars lol is there any cheaper oil that will help?

If you've got no oil inside the exhaust tips/dirty rear end...

Aside from the valve covers, I'd be looking at the pcv valves, oil filter housing, oil pan gasket, front and rear main seals, just anywhere underneath the engine for any kind of heavy oily/dirt buildup. If it's super clean under there and you still have consumption issues after the valve cover gaskets... Then I'd start to worry about it being internal.

It may just be a filthy PCV system. You'll be able to tell by inspecting the valves/looking at the intake plenum when you're doing the valve cover gaskets.

Check the oil cooler seal. Known leak spot.

One more question, I want to install a catch can when I change the valve cover gaskets and plug grommets. I'm also gonna do the plenum spacer.

What parts, hoses, fittings do I need for the catch can? Any can in particular? I read that I should get a closed system.... ty guys

Just buy one of the many closed kits for the 350Z. Check with the vendors here.

I found a few but we're expensive. I'm trying to make my own kit. From what I've read the vacume lines are 3/8. So I'll get some fuel line, dress it up and an amazon oil catch can... how's this?

I see two ways to route the hoses for the catch can.

1 way I see people do is pvc valve to catch can and out the catch can to the passenger side valve cover while caping off the plenum and intake

The other way is pvc to catch can out of the can to the plenum and not touching the intake or valve cover on passenger side....which one is more beneficial and does caping off the plenum and intake do any harm?

What size hoses? Is 3/8 correct?

The PCV valve is on the passenger's side. It goes to the IN side of the can. The OUT side of the can goes to the plenum to provide a vacuum source for the can to function properly. The driver's side valve cover draws fresh air in from the intake to replace the air drawn out through the PCV valve. Either leave the driver's side connected to the intake (the intake never sees vacuum, since vacuum is created in the plenum by the TB being closed, so it won't draw oil out of the valve cover), or you can put a breather filter on the driver's side valve cover. I don't remember what size hose I used.

Since your car is an '03, go ahead and replace the PCV valve while you're there.
