Default question on 2004 nissan 350z

good afternoon to all,
thanks for all the great info here I read it to keep my sons 350z in check. a major concern came up today when my son took his car for the average oil change. the mechanic told him that the rods are bad. there was oil leaking from front area. he cleaned it and put oil in and the knocking he heard kinda of went away. so my son took his car to oreileys to ask for some advice. the gentlemen told him that the harmonic balancer is lose. any advice from you guys on this?

I would bring it to a shop that specializes in the Z like Corner 3 Motorsports. My bets, it was low on oil and could have done some damage.

Yeah I'd definitely say it was low on oil I normally check mine twice a week just to make sure, but again I drive the z like it's suppose to be sometimes

Take it to a reputable shop. I wouldn't trust the quick lube guys, OR an O'reilly's parts person for their opinion on that. Keep us posted.

-How does the mechanic KNOW that the rods are bad, and how did he determine that? -
-And where from the FRONT is your son leaking oil?
-What weight oil WAS your son running, and what weight did the mechanic replace it with?
-O'reilly's said the the harmonic balancer(crank pulley) was loose AFTER the mechanic said the rods were bad? Need more info.
