So im looking to get a megan racing y pipe for my 2007 hr. i wanted to make it cali legal so i know i would have to weld on some cats. I figured just swapping it out during smog time would make it cheaper but i dont want to keep swapping them out everytime i smog. Any tips or advice. I am willing to pay for the weld just any ideas what cats to weld that have carb legal or other options that would be easier.
Y-pipe was separate from the two catalytic converters. There are choices of High flow, test pipes and stock. Same for y-pipes: Megan, Top Speed, Stillen, Tomei and more.

This. ^^^ No one cares what you do aft of the cats.
Personally, would go with Motordyne XYZ pipe(s) to cut down any chance of rasp, DEPENDING on what cat back sys you choose.
Save the waste of time. Megan Pipes are Junk. Know from experience. Welds cracked and pipe cracked. I run the ISR (ISIS) Y Pipe, had it for months. Great quality and good price.
I run the Tanabe Y pipe on my nismo. A great piece. Like another member said, Megan parts are junk-ish. You find really good used Y pipes all the time. Just scout a little.
Motordyne Y pipe has a optional cat. You can run the straight pipe or resonator all times but the once every two years you need smog, swap the cat. Bolt in bolt out
